Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft interested in EA Access like program, thinks it's good for publisher brands

If it has enough games to justify the price I'll buy into it.

Define this content?

If it's just demos or some subscriber goodies, who the hell cares? If it's full blown games exclusive only to the service, it's a suicidal move, because that game will never sell well.

I'm talking like exclusive DLC. We've already seen it being locked behind preorders and limited editions this gen. I just find it hard to trust EA but we'll see.

They would lose a shit ton of money if they gave exclusive DLC. We'll see, but EA would be idiots if they gave any noteworthy DLC only to subscribers.

That being said, if it's only a few costumes or non-essentials, who really cares?

Some kind of already do this, though. Preorder X version of X game and get the X DLC FREE! And they wouldn't be idiots, because people WOULD pay for exclusive DLC. Because they already do, just in different forms.

You're putting a lot of faith in these companies to believe this concept wouldn't be abused, especially when EA and Ubisoft don't have a great track record as it is. Why is it in any way good for the consumer to be gated off from content, even what you consider non-essentials? Just because it's a 'choice' to pay for a subscription doesn't mean it's inherently a benefit to us.

You can get the DLC free, but you can also buy it seperately if you don't pre-order the game.

I can see people getting free DLC with the subscription, but exclusive? Nah. EA will sell the DLC seperately for people who don't care about the sub, and they can buy it just like they always have.

I don't trust the companies, but I do know exclusive major DLC would be stupid in terms of finances.

What about console exclusive DLC, which already exists? Wouldn't that be even more stupid finacially, since a console is a much, much larger investment than a month subscription to something? Even if it's timed, it's actively taking something away from consumers that don't have the console/subscription. There is NO win for us in these scenarios. And I'm still dubious that they wouldn't be greedy enough to lock away content completely. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one, though, since this is all hypothetical, of course.

Of course the same people who excused MS making them pay for online, without giving anything in return, or going to excuse 3rd parties for doing these subs just cause its exclusive to the One. Thank God the PS4 is stomping the competition and Sony said no. The sales gap is going to make it suicidal to put their DLC and extra content behind their subscriptions, so they'll still be available on the PS4, but some will be put behind the wall on the One. So what may seem like a plus for the One, now, will eventually just be a negative.

Console DLC is smart financially because of the boatload of money said publishers make from Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo. They get compensated for any loss of sales on other platforms.

That wouldn't be the case here.

guilty now?

You should never show that. No.

Gamers will never be taken seriously under that moniker.

Bank of America, Monsanto, etc... are all harming peoples lives but internet folks have to bitch about a luxury item.

MS is still the only of the big 3 that gives me all the European soccer matches every week-end through the ESPN app on HD.

I don't see anybody else offering this to me so, I'll go with who offers more value.

The funny thing is, even with everything behind pay wall, X360 had the biggest online community in games that required online gaming.

Happy customers I guess.

I'm baffled at all the naivety some people are showing here "Oh, it's just an option", "Don't like it don't use it", what have these publishers done to deserve this level of trust?

We are talking about a company that is right now refusing to let reviewers review their newest game prior to launch and another company that purposely hid graphics settings in the PC version of their last big game and that is not content with releasing a cross gen game, no they release two versions of their newest game one for last and one for current gen, so people ideally for Ubisoft buy both versions.

What have these companies done, that I should trust them and just say "welp whatever, they aren't locking away content here, so it's purely optional"? They aren't locking away content YET (well EA is locking away demos already, but I mean real ingame content), who's to say that they won't start doing it soon to get subsciptions up?

I personally have no fucking interest in a game industry where everytime I want to get a new game, I have to get a subscription too, just to have access to all its content. Seriously, fuck that.

The problem is that morons are usually the ones who drive consumer trends.

Look at the rise of reality television and the sales of One Direction albums.

Unfortunately the the mass market is either too stupid or too naive to see when they are being taken advantage of.

I wish people would use other bands, One Direction is pretty good.

Lol, I actually revived this thread an hour later just to say this

I can't help but wonder if we are heading to another video games crash.

So long as Nintendo stays strong, we should be okay

One company having success wont save the industry, regardless of what too many Sony and Nintendo fans here think.
