I don't know if that's true. The trading card game has already been available so they already have released something this high profile since its literally the same thing just repackaged as an app.
You've had the ability to play on any mobile device with a browser for a while now.
I don't think this is really that much of a buzz except for people outside of the loop. The Pokemon Company has been doing a lot of things outside of what Nintendo normally does.

It's owned in thirds by Nintendo, GameFreak, and Creatures Inc.. These three companies own The Pokemon Company which owns Pokemon. The other two companies are majority owned by Nintendo.
