The Pokemon Company has been releasing things on iOS for several years now, this isn't a new development. The PTCG has been available on PC and mobile for a long time through a browser interface.

This is just streamlining it into an App.

True. But they have to yet release anything this high profile on it yet, which will change with the coming of this game.
