Forums - Nintendo - Zelda U: it might actually support motion controls!

Well Aonuma stated in some interview, shortly after SS released iirc, that he couldn't imagine going back to button controls for Zelda after SS, as that would feel like a step backwards. Then again, a lot has happened since.

Imo it seems like a given that they'll offer flexible control options, so motion(+) and traditional controls, likely with options for old-school pro controller as well as gyro- and touchscreen-enhanced Gamepad options.

I would love it if they had motion controls again but improved upon even further but sadly I don't see it happening :/

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Stick with physical buttons. Come on Aonuma, you did so well with ALBW!

It would be a dream come true for me. I loved the motion controls in Skyward Sword.

And for those who didn't like them, I imagine it would be completely optional (if it happens at all, which I still doubt) so don't complain!

Bets:

1. If the Wii U sells closer to 10 million LTD by 1/3/2015 I win. If it sells closer to 9.5 million LTD by 1/3/2015 OfficerRaichu15 wins (winner gets 2 weeks of avatar control)--Lost.

I hope it's not even an option. Options like that means compromise. If the motion controls are an afterthought that doesn't effect any game design, I'm fine, but other than that, leave them out. I want to play a video game, not larping.

i personally loved the motion controls in skyward sword. but focusing on the same kind of controls for wii u in favour of utilizing the touchscreen seems like an odd choice. and i'd say it's equally odd to solely focus on touchscreen controls. i mean the purpose of motion controls in zelda is the possibility to imitate real life sword fighting, right? the touchscreen doesn't seem as intuitive in that regard.
perhaps we'll get some sort of add-on to hold the touchscreen as a shield, and the wiimote as the sword... :p

I think they might have just made Link right handed now. I know they changed that for the motion controls, but it would make sense if they just decided to stick with it.

Actually if it's just an option, that's cool, but it could be a bit pointless if none of the game's mechanics involve motion controls. I've thought that they could use the touchpad to replace motion controls - tap a specific point to thrust, slash by drawing lines, etc. However I like touchpad controls a lot less than I like motion controls so I hope they just go with buttons... maybe some kind of more advanced button-based control scheme where different buttons do different attacks instead of JUST being mapped to items - that way they could make the fighting more complex while keeping the control scheme relatively simple. OR they could have the right control stick control the sword while you press the control stick in ... lots of options.

I don't see them not trying to fully use the gamepad for that game. If the bow is the primary weapon it could be used like the bow in Nintendo land's zelda.

Optional motion plus controls would be amazing.
