Well, I think Wii supremacy pretty much stealed Japan from PS3.
In the long run PS3 and 360 may take some bit of Europe or US to barely stand their foot on, but not in Japan. Boy, Wii is destined to be ultimate King there.

The PSP was also counted down and out in Japan and look at it's sales recently. The PS3 isn't dead yet but if it doesn't improve it's situation it'll be considered a flop compared to the PS2 in Japan.
I'd like to see how the Gamecube and PS3 line up in Japan. Sadly I can't figure out how to line the charts up. If anyone can post that data please do! It'd be nice to see the comparison between first and second place this gen with last gen.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I got flamed for being a jerk to people who disagreed with me, so I'm gonna try to be as robotic as possible:
A. The Japanese have, historically, picked a console and stuck with it, at least until saturation.
B. The Wii is already far ahead in Japan and outselling it abotu 4 to 1 weekly. That's widening the gap significantly each week.
C. Moster Hunter 3 is a Wii exclusive.
I can certainly see why you want the PS3 to make a turnaround of legend in Japan, and it just might do so in the US and Others(it's got to beat the Wii first, turnaround doesn't mean beat the second place guy on a weekly basis and be set to pass him in 2 years, in my book).
However, I believe that even if there was a huge turnaround in Others and America, which seems unlikely, I can't see Japan turning around, considering how hugely popular Nintendo is there atm. DS brand name is helping the Wii, Japanese culture is helping the Wii. Nothing the PS3 has tried so far has done even one bit of good for it in Japan, even price cuts. No, there will be no big turnaround in Japan. The sales will flip-flop during price cuts, supply issues on both sides, and big game releases, but the PS3 will never beat the Wii in japan on a overall yearly chart. Its just too late for it to take top spot in that country, no matter how "times they are a changing."
I mean, the Wii is getting freakin' close to the PSP in Japan already. I don't see the PS3 being a PSP type success in Japan....ever, do you?
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

You mean like this?
PS: If you change PS2 to Wii in that graph, you'll get scared.

If and when the next-gen consoles have enough titles that appeal to Japanese gamers, then you'll see a tidal shift of them adopting the newer platform. I think games like MGS4, GT5, FF13 will help PS3 alot (people go nuts for these games over here). And also the anticipated multiplatform games like Resident evil 5 will boost PS3 sales much more than for the 360. |
Also, I think your list might be biased, because it doesn't include big Wii japanese released, like Monster Hunter 3, Brawl, Kart, Fit, or Zelda.
Those games definately boost sales a lot. Think of all the Wii has going for it already, and a future price drop, it really has just as much Japanese stuff as the PS3 atm from a sales perspective.

Yakuza 3, MGS4, GT5. Price drops. I know you WANT the PS3 to fail, but it dropping this early proves nothing. It doesn't have those games that attract people right now. Simple as that. Final Fantasy still hasnt been released. The JRPG's arent out yet. Shhh man, just shhh. Until the Wii gets all the games that made the PS3 popular, and until you're sure that even being at a low enough price people don't want a PS3, you dont know anything.
The Wii doesn't have what the PS3 has, and the PS3 doesn't have what the Wii has. To say it will NEVER turn around is just fanboy wishes. To say it won't ever beat it out one year is not true. You're speculating because of Feb sales, when SSBB/ Wii Fit were just released? Naw dawg, iunno about that.
fanboys are stupid lol. All hardware sales are down from last month (yes even the wii). the paystation is no were near dead lol. sony starts selling past 360 EVERYWHERE... then now is when people claim its dead lol so funny.... xbots are so funny lol
I wish people would stop saying it needs a price cut in Japan because it already has the lowest prices in the world. The 40gb can be picked up for less than $330 in some shops.
Not only does it have the cheapest prices in Japan, it also has new controllers and a new color.
| Girl Gamer Elite said: I don't like the PS3 because it was a clumsy arrogant and awkward product forced onto the market three to five years before it was economically viable. Forced Blu-Ray on any PS3 consumer increasing the price tag exponentially. And since then has offered many games either ruined by the pitiful six-axis, ridden with glitches due to poor programming, that look better on the 360 or require loading large chunks of data onto the HDD. Not to mention the PS3 has all but abandoned Backwards Compatibility and even when it did have it, the system required firmware updates to make it work right and adaptors to use memory cards and other accessories. Let's also not forget "Rumble" being last gen, yet now they somehow miraculously find a way to include it but at the same time not bundle it with the console. |
You have a freakish (and quite frankly unhealthy) obsession with trying to put the PS3 in a bad light, or going to great efforts to to show how there is something wrong with the platform.
I don't think I can fully understand the mentality behind it. In my experience even rabid fanboys don't bother attacking another system month in month out tirelessly.
I mean some of the things you actually tried to include as criticisms "Firmware updates" and "loading data onto the HDD" are you actually serious? You're clutching at straws!
In fact you've even had arguments in the PS3 Devil May Cry game section of this site about it...how pitiful.
You're clearly on a smear campaign against the PS3. Keep fighting the good fight!

Just because its got the cheapest price in the world means its not expensive anymore? I guarantee there are more people in Japan that want a PS3, but without the games and for that price they will wait to jump. Just like the issue in the US and in Europe. High price, not many games, not a lot of people will buy it. Especially with the Wii right there with its best game in the box.
Pricing is too high to make someone just unless they see something they really like on the console ATM. I don't think many Japanese people go in to a store and say "hmm, it cost more than the other consoles, but HEY WE GOT THE CHEAPEST PS3 PRICE IN THE WORLD SO LETS GET IT!!!"
