Forums - Gaming Discussion - Polygon: Tomb Raider's Xbox exclusivity likely means more sales, higher profits

...I really, really, really doubt that 50% of people with an eighth gen console happen to own another eighth gen console as well. And of the assuredly small percentage that do, I'd wager the vast majority has a Wii U for their second.

polygon the ones who underestimate mario kart and over estimate a game that sold mostly on a different console XD

Microsoft are so dumb. They are getting the short end of the stick on this deal. The positives are all in SE's favor.

Why does microsoft always spend way too much on crap? Skype, nokia, this...

Why? Beacause Xbox is being run by suits and people who care not one FUCK about games and gaming in general. It's why that platform feels so souless for me. I remember telling a friend of mine in 2000 that MS was going to be bad for the industry and that he should temper his glee for the (then) up and coming Xbox. Here we are 14 years later and it turns out to be true.

I really have turned away from all MS products. Windows was the last thing I used and now I've even managed to ditch that. I see a MS logo now and it looks like Origin to me. Instant turn off.

The article kinda ended that the game will make more money when its no longer an exclusive...

Crytek and Capcom approve! lol

Right and LOL@ thinking a console that has sold more than 5 million less than it's major competitor can sell more copies of a game.By the time TR releases the gap will be bigger than 10 million.Maybe even 20.

Lol. What kind of chimp wrote that thing?

Sure they may be making more money. That's probably what this deal is about. But selling more units? That is just bullshit. The whole "calculation" they did is absolute nonsense.
First of all pretending that 50% of gamers own both consoles is a joke. Secondly ignoring that the cut off gamers are 2 thirds of the market and not just half is another joke.

They can be happy if the controversy about the game pushes it up to half of the possible sales. And yes I'm ignoring that it's only timed exclusive.

Well 50% may be too much, but by the end of 2015, a significant amount will own both consoles. Maybe 20 - 25% will own both.

Do you really believe this?

This is a forum of made out of core gamers. Do you really believe it looks better with  the mainstream consumer?

Its been only 8 and a half months since the generation started. Later on more people will buy other consoles they don't own.

Sure, but 2015 isn't later on, it's still early in the generation when the vast majority of people only won one console. Let us look at gen 6, how many multiconsole owners could there have been? PS2 had 70% market share. That means a maximum of about 40% of PS2 owners purchased a second console that generation. The actual multiconsole ownership rate in gen 6 would be far lower than that. Gen 5 would be a similar picture. The length of gen 7 and the fadness of Wii probably means gen 7 has a relatively high multi console ownership rate. But among people I actually know the pattern of ownership is either console only or Wii +1. I know quite a few people with a console and I don't personally know anyone with PS3 and 360 Combo. Oh also plenty of people who're PC +1.

This article is a bunch of bullcrap of the stinkiest kind.
50% of people buy both consoles? Yeah, right. I'd like to see that survey...

its probably closer to 60 (ps4) 30 (Xb1) and 10 (both)

and not to mention most likely a higher percentage of ps4 owners would buy tomb raider compared to xbox owners. (based off past history).

so maybe 1 in 8 playstion owners buy TR, but only 1 in 10 for xbox. even more lost sales.

And I suppose Mario Kart 8 will also only sell 1.26M lifetime?

Came here to post this, wasn't dissapointed.

If 50% of all PS4 owners buy XOnes than theres no one on the world that owns only a XOne. Super nice statistic there Polygon...

Polygon writes some really funny stuff.
