We do not know what the deal is.  The deal could be for any mainline TR game released in the next 2 years to be exclusive forever, his statements are still accurate.

"He also confirmed Square Enix are free to do anything the want with the game and the franchise after the deal has ended, including releasing on other consoles"

Which is great and all, except Phil didn't actually say that did he? The writer said that, making the same inaccurate extrapolation you are.

KylieDog is correct. Neither of us are saying that this excludes the game from ever coming to PS4. But you're looking for a confirmation that simply is not there.

As of this moment, no member of the public has any reliable information that they'll ever play Rise of the Tomb Raider on a PS4.

Just except that the game will release on PS later. They already announced it for PS at E3, along with PC.They agme already exists for other platforms so that is reliable information.Common sense would tell a retard that this would be released on PS regardless.

LOL not all the xbox fanboys look dumb for bragging about this announcement.Timed as usual.MS has a crappier Gamescom now that the facts have came out.

Why didn't you just said so in the first place and saved the sanity of a lot of people over the internet xD

The obfuscation is too strong for RTR to be a permaexclusive. If it was a permaexclusive then Spencer would have said it outright. Because from a MS perspective a permaexclusive is hugely good news, and even more if it's for all mainline sequels and not something you would want to obfuscate around. Phil's response is entirely consistent with a "yes the game will likely come to PS4 and PC but hell if I'm going to come out and actually say that to anyone" response.

Phil's ok, and he's probably got as close to confirming future releases on competing platforms as he's allowed to do as a MS PR schill. So I'm not going to criticise what he's said here. It's what's been said in the preceding 24 has that merits a lot of criticism.

RIght now the vast majority of the TR fanbase is trashing anything releated about the game, confirming full exclusive will just make it worse.  By being vague and misleading he hopes to get the TR community on the games side so they spread positive word of it.  The press release for the game said they want non-Xbone owners to join in the promotion, but it got edited out because it was insulting them even further.

You know how utterly ridiculous that sounds? Make vague statements with the intention of misleading people into thinking RTR exclusivity is of limited duration so that at launch they can pull the rug out from under the hopes and dreams of PC and PS TR fans expecting that will go down much better with gamers than being up front, transparent and honest with everyone right now. Yeah that seems like a really sound marketing strategy.

Look if the game was a permanent exclusive for Xbox, honest Abe Phil Spencer would have said so. There is no universe in which hiding that information is better for either company involved or for the sales potential of the game.

If Mass Effect 1 can come to PS3 as a standalone game (even if only digital) then on  the basis of Phil' statement of them not having bought TR outright means MS does not have RTR locked down. It doesn't mean RTR will come to PS4 because that's a decision for SE not MS, but it does mean the door is open for SE if they want to walk through it.

I'll be so bold as to say it is guaranteed to be on PC because that won't have strings attached. Sony will want to extract a pound of flesh from SE for it to go on PS4 so SE will have pros and cons to weigh up. But I don't there is any credibility to the assertion that MS has a hold over the game beyond 12 months after launch, and it could be as brief as 31 Dec 2015.

Phil should've never said anything about the duration if he doesn't want to tell how long it is.
Business deals belong behind doors. Why he told the press that it has a duration is beyond me. Maybe it slipped because he was annoyed.

As I told Starcraft, the deal has a duration so unless you believe it lasts 2+ years there will be a PS4 version (and PC). Heck, they've most likely already started on those versions

As you told Starcraft, based on your own personal and intimate knowledge of the deal

Kyliedog is correct. Phil very carefully specifies that he is discussing the IP only. The 'deal' could very well be the duration before any Tomb Raider IP of substance can appear on other platforms - meaning its entirely feasible that this Tomb Raider game will skip the PS4 and PC altogether.

Eh, that's what Phil himself said. It's not that hard to figure out if you apply some reading comprehension. Whether it's about only this game or the "IP of substance" is highly irrelevant, because the deal has a duration. I can't believe some people still think it could not be timed...

I can already prove you wrong, because they are working on a Tomb Raider game for PS4 and PC, mentioned by Crystal Dynamics themselves. AND like I said, unless you believe the duration is more than 2 years, rise of the tomb raider WILL come to other platforms.  It will be a late port, but it will be extra millions of sales for Square Enix. Do you think they'd just skip this game and release the next one on other platforms? That would be stupid.
