When those hearts are the ones buying your games, it's a stupid move.

How to reboot a franchise, by Square Enix:
Create a great reboot game for a worn out franchise, gain universal praise and, although it sold millions of copies and turned out pretty lucrative, state that it was "under expectations".
Announce a sequel, generate hype, then make that sequel exclusive to the least selling console (Wii U apart, that is).
...
Profit?

I can also respect that.
They did say "coming exclusively to XBOX One this holiday" so I'm guessing timed.
"We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider"
Sure looks like it. Lmfao, you done goofed
The One and Only
Launch a TR reboot in 2013 on an install-base of 150 millions consoles.
Sales are better on PS3 (2.2M versus 1.7M).
Complain about it not selling enough.
Launch a TR : Definitive Edition in 2014 on next-gen consoles.
Sales are better on PS4 (460k versus 170k).
Decide to make the next installment exclusive in 2015 to the less-selling console.
Go home SE, you're drunk.

Perplexing decision, really. I expect the Xbox One to establish much better sales by then but it is still a franchise that has been heavily associated with the PS brand. They have to understand that no matter what the Xbox One install base is by that time that sales are going to suffer tremendously. Not sure what executive thought this was a good idea. Good get for Microsoft, though. I just would temper expectations as far as sales go that is for sure. |
Well, on last gen it was 2.2m against 1.7m so the difference is not *that* big, I think.
Lots of unhappy people here.
I didn’t see a bunch of people cancel their PS+ and sell their PS4s to show Sony that Moneyhatting exclusive content for their system via a White PS4 and Destiny content. You can’t have it both ways. Either you accept that companies make deals with publishers or you don’t. If you don’t want to accept it, sell your XB1 or PS4 and go PC only. If you do accept it, quit complaining or saying you’ll never buy their games again. If you’re such a big gaming fan, you’ll find a way to own both consoles and get any game or content that you want.
It is near the end of the end....

Yes, Nintendo signed a deal for five exclusive Gamecube games, on which they later ported to the Ps2.
On the other hand, Square Enix put Final Fantasy franchise on the Playstation, neglecting Nintendo forever except for spin-offs àla Crystal Chronicles. Don't know which middle finger is worst here.
Now you understand how Nintendo people felt, indeed.
