Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Well as long at it has playstation in the name, it will sell well.

No, no, I meant just the PS4. With its hype and appeal, it would sell well regardless of the name.

OK, that I can agree with!

it would have sold 95% of what it is doing now. solely because of the price.

It would hurt sales somewhat, I have little doubt.

With the Playstation 4, the general public knows instantly what they're getting, generally speaking. It's the fourth generation of Playstation video-game consoles. There is no chance for confusion.

"Playstation U", however? Ick. No one would know what the heck it was simply by hearing the name. That would have been an absolutely awful idea. Honestly, there is no need to change what works, especially not simply for the sake of being different.

i can see them going up to PS9, then naming the PS10 the PSX. but what after that i wonder. that would be in around 35-40 years. but hey, my mind wonders sometimes lol.

Playstation 3U is a better analogy

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I don't think it would make a huge difference. Sony's initial PS4 buying fanbase tends to be more hardcore and they would know what the brand is.

"Wii" itself IMO was a problem for Nintendo, not just the "U". By 2011, "Wii" had become synonmous with being an outdated trend, much like Blackberry and MySpace were top brands in 2005 but undesirable or considered passe by 2011 if not sooner.

Nintendo honestly should've launched a "Wii HD" around 2009 when the Wii brand was still relevant, with the ability to display 720p games (same fidelty otherwise) and a much improved OS with social media networking functionality for non-gamer types.

Then in 2012 they should've just launched a new "core" console free of the Wii's baggage and stigma.
