Forums - Gaming - Are the PS4 versions of multiplats really better??

usually ps4 version are better, but not by much, and its not about it not being more capable(because it is) its because the devs choose parity,or ''near parity'',they're certainly not taking advantage of the ps4 in any way/shape/ form, they get them as close to equal as they can so one fan base with the weaker console dont have a heart attack... i bet theres hardly any,if at all, multiplat games even touching the gpgpu with any regularity on the ps4

The PS4 version have more visual polish and/or better frame rates.

However, its not the world of difference some people make it seem like. This isn't PS2 graphics vs Xbox graphics.

The average person won't see the differences and X1 games are becoming more polished. Destiny is proof of that.

Wrong, bungi decided to reach for parity, wich means they decided to work harder on the x1 version and not the ps4. Right now it might seem worth it cuz even if the ps4 is selling more copies of a multyplat its not that much. But that will change in the future as the intall base for the ps4 is now twice the x1's, and is increasing. WHen the ps4 is 3:1 x1, devs wont care for parity and they will push harder for the ps4.

You're babbling.

I'm merely pointing out X1 games are more polished now. We're seeing higher resolutions and frame rates. Developers will push harder on both platforms.

This is true. It seems X1 games are hitting 1080 p more often now. Some examples Destiny and Diablo 3 (sniper III but that screen tare)

Sorry, but I don't buy that.  Look at "Infamous" and it's graphics, then compare to Destiny.  Bungie OBVIOUSLY kept the complexity of the graphics low so they could give the same experience on the XB1 than the PS4.

When you look at other games, like say Sniper Elite 3...keeping the "bells and whistles" on both versions brings the XB1 to it's knees.  So, again, very obviously, Bungie decided to keep things lower key to let them have parity (as far as the overall experience) across both platforms.  However, I think when the final game comes out, it will STILL look better on PS4.

Really? Think it has more to do with with DESTINY being an FPS.  Types of games have alot to do with what developers decide to do graphically... less to do with parity.

Why are so many PS4 games inferior to RYSE? Did all those games dial it back?  Nope.. has to do with developer choices and ability.  There has yet to be ANY single one game the PS4 (I know. I own both systems) where the PS4 utterly blows away the X1 in terms of graphaical appearence..  Sorry.. just isn't there.  Even with EXCLUSIVE titles..

Because Ryse devs decided to go with 900p and about 21 fps to reach that gfx fidelity on the X1. Fact Ryse would run at higher FPS and/or resolution on PS4 #dealwithit

I know. I'm tired of this defense of the xbox one. Just because you can't tell the difference (which I really find hard to believe honestly) doesn't make it not better. It's because fans of xbox don't want to acknowledge that they are buying an infererior product. At this point, there's no real objective argument against the ps4 vs the xbox one. The only real defense of the xbox one now is that you like the exclusives more. And they annoying part about this defense is that people always treat it likes their opinion is the only correct one. If someone would rather play halo than uncharted, whatever, it's their choice. But what annoys me is that many people treat this situation like they like Halo more because it's just flat out better.

So I have a serious question for you. Last gen (PS3 vs Xbox 360), which was the "inferior" product?

In terms of multiplats, the PS3. Now I have a question for you, do you agree?

The PS3 had a couple of HUGE issues last gen.  I felt that it was a FAR better built console [Comment about hardware specs], and it had Blu-ray going for it [Comment about Multimedia Format]...but it lacked cross-game chat [missing feature request], a robust infrastructure for multiplayer [missing feature request] and it was VERY difficult for developers to program for [Possibly indirectly related to multiplats being poorer on the ps3?].  That being said...the EXCLUSIVE titles for PS3 late in the gen were OUTSTANDING, and easily beat the best that the 360 could do [Agreed, but exclusive titles are the opposite of multiplatform].

This gen, the PS4 is easier to develop for,has better hardware, has multiplayer infrastructure robust enough to compete, AND it has the chat features they were missing last gen.  PLUS they have better sharing and streaming options. [Talking about this gen even though the comment you are responding to is about last gen...]

It's a whole different ballgame this gen.

I think you ignored the part where I said: "In terms of multiplats".

I think you ignored my entire comment.  I was talking about multiplatform games.  They were almost identical, far less difference between the PS3 and 360 than what you are seeing now between the PS4 and the Xbox One...the ONLY advantage MS had was XBL and their cross game chat...which is not even an issue  this gen, as Sony has improved their multiplayer infrastructure and has added cross game chat to the PS4.  And again, I stated that the EXCLUSIVE games were where the PS3 held the advantage.  But hey, I don't feel the need to convert you.  Play what you want, believe what you want.  It wont change the REALITY of what is happening this gen.

The only things you said that related to multiplats agreed with what I was saying to begin with... That the ps3 was the inferior console for multiplatform games.

I'm just confused as to how your comment was in response to mine.

"But hey, I don't feel the need to convert you."

I bought a ps3 last gen, not a 360... And I'll probably buy a ps4 this gen, not an xbox one... I think you are taking this all a bit to personally. But I don't feel the urge to try to claim that the ps3 somehow had an equal or better experience than the 360 when it comes to multiplatform games. The 360 was generally better in that area. That is all my comment said.

I think we are just going around in circles...your viewpoint is probably a lot more similar to mine than either of us realized. And no, not taking anything personally, just trying to express my views as coherently as possible. Apparently I failed :)

Nice just making up #'s..  RYSE does not hit 21FPS..    The average is around 28..  Never dips below 26FPS..      But anyway..  I said right in my statement.. "developer choices and ability" always have to do with what a game reaches for.

As Digital Foundry said "the overall presentation and image composition in Ryse is of an extremely high quality. While we prefer native 1080p output whenever possible, we feel that Ryse demonstrates successfully the possibility of lowering internal resolution while still producing a clean image at the final console output. Ryse is a beautiful game and stands as one of the most technically impressive next-generation titles we've seen to date"

And.. I don't have to deal with anything.. I own both consoles.. and enjoy them both. Still doesn't change what I said. There is not ONE single PS4 game that blows away the X1 graphically.

That wasn't the question though, better can be marginal or it can be monumental...

I don't really have an opinion, but your answer helps my point. Look where both systems ended up in overall worldwide sales 7-8 years down the road. Both essentially neck and neck at 83 million systems each. Both hugely successful systems with different things to offer. And this despite a really rocky first 1-2 years for the PS3 and multiplats looking inferior for at least the first few years compared to 360 (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-360-vs-ps3-graphics-comparison-round-5/1100-6242816/).

What's happening today with regards to PS4 vs Xbox One is completely irrelevant to the end result 5-7 years from now. From PS3's launch in 2006 and through 2007 and really for years beyond that they got their ass kicked by 360, but look where they are now. It didn't matter. Nothing is going to be decided in the first couple years.

You are forgetting one crucial difference.  Last gen, the PS3 was also a Blu-Ray movie player, which the Xbox 360 lacked.  MANY of the sales of the PS3 were due to that one feature...also, the PS3 has a FAR larger library of exclusive titles.

This gen, the console that needs to come up from behind has inferior hardware AND an inferior selection of games.  How is that going to happen, exactly?

Not to mention that Microsoft doesn't exactly have worldwide like Sony does. And there's no guarantee that Xbox One will have 46+ million U.S. Xbox One owners like with 46+ million U.S. Xbox 360 owners, either.
