Forums - Nintendo - Safe To Say 3rd Party Support From Wii U Is Pretty Much Gone?

This is exactly why they need to unify the handheld and console next-gen. With development time/costs increasing, Nintendo can no longer give strong support to two seperate platforms and they cant continue having minimal 3rd party support on the console side.

One thing that is always a safe bet about Nintendo handhelds is that they will have strong 3rd party support from Japanese developers. By unifying the hardware, that ensures that Nintendo's next console will also have strong third party support.

With Nintendo no longer having to make games for 2 seperate devices, they will be able to end having 1st party droughts plus strong Japanese 3rd party support, family friendly western support (Skylanders/Disney/Lego/licensed games), Nintendo's next-gen devices will be able to have a consistant schedule of game releases.

its a good casual shooter, nothing more, the gameplay mechanics arnt close to perfect and its not competetive, its not a E-sport its just a funny easy shooter for kids and dudebros.  that totaly okay, nothing bad about that, just dont try to make it bigger than it is, its the transformers of gaming.

Funny easy shooter for kids and dudebros.

That's a good justification.

Yeah, unfortunately.

It's sad. Nintendo is to blame for this, and very few third party publishers even tried.

I said the same thing almost a year ago. Family friendly games (like Skylanders, Just Dance, Infinity), Sonic games and cheap tie-ins like How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures is going to be what we'll be getting. I'm amazed that a lot of people didn't see this coming. I'm still somewhat hopeful that at least some studios will be doing a little effort if the Wii U has a great holiday, but I'd be a lot less surprised if this situation doesn't change.

Lucky for us Wii U owners, Nintendo's own games are spectacular (mostly). To me they are more essential than the multiplatform games it's missing. I'll eventually buy a PS4 to get a chance to play some of them too.

Issues with Nintendo for 3rd parties, who, as companies are just out to make money, so who can blame them?

1. Backward compatibility so that 3rd parties can't just rerelease games every generation? Can't have that!

2. A whole catalog of great 1st party games? Can't have that.

3. Conservative values with regards to too much violence, sex, drugs in video games? Can't have that. Filth sells.

Solutions?

1.Destroy Nintendo

Possible outcome?

1. Nintendo slowly disappears into nothingness, also helped by their inept marketing.

2. Nintendo becomes a relic. A special case with their breakaway attitude that goes against the pay to play attitude of the 3rd parties. This can be prevented if the likes of EA throw them a bone here and there. It has to be a sucky bone and it has to damage their image.

Even though I own Stret Fighter IV Arcade Edition on Steam, and I will get Ultra on steam, it bothers me that both Wii and Wii U's virtual console have like 4 Super Nintendo Street Fighter games, and no version of Street Fighter 4 was released for Wii or Wii U, especially when Street Fighter IV for 3DS sold over one million units.

I read in Neogaf that SNK is making the new King of fighters, and that they are hiring people with experience in PS3 and Xbox360, so I am sure it will not be on Wii U.
Perhaps Nintendo doesn't want those games because they don't want them to compete with Smash, but even if I can get Street Fighter and KOF on Steam, I would rather play them on a Nintendo console.
I prefer all games that can be played with another person in the living room on consoles.

Nintendo has to think of their future and what they want to be, because much of the reason for making a console is the revenue from third parties.

I don't care about about most third parties but this capcom thing bothers me.
When I was a kid I had Street Fighter 2 turbo, Killer Instinct, Samurai Shodown and Mortal Kombat II for my SNES.
My only Nintendo game was Super Mario World (bundled) + Killer Instinct which was from Rare if you consider that Nintendo.

I'm glad; Nintendo's at their best when they're cornered.

I agree with this statement... However, as for everybody else predicting doom and gloom over AAA 3rd parties, people are neglecting to realize one thing... AAA 3rd party developers are dying, and they are dying at a rapid pace.

It isn't that the Wii U has no AAA 3rd party support. It's that Nintendo is no longer concerned with AAA 3rd parties. Sony is following this same trend. Only Microsoft appears to be going for these AAA developers. Nowadays, both Nintendo and Sony are focused on the indie market.

The fact to the matter is that the video game industry is changing. It can no longer support big budget, hollywood style, blockbuster, AAA 3rd party games. Look at last generation. Over 130 3rd party developers went belly up. This generation is seeing a rapid increase of these same third parties disappearing. As budgets begin to balloon, more companies either go completely out of business, bought out and etc. Or, they produce the same games over and over again - afraid to innovate for the fear of producing a flop and going completely under.

Once again, AAA developers are dying. It isn't that the Wii U is losing support. Rather, it's that there are fewer and fewer AAA third parties to create any game for any system whatsoever. Look at Japan. It used to be a haven of AAA 3rd party developers. Now look at it. There's hardly any more of them around. Now western 3rd parties are feeling the same sting. It's only going to be a matter of time until there's just a handful of these AAA 3rd party developers. By this time, the indie scene will be the everyday scene.

Pretty much this. You hit the nail on the head and the biggest evidence was their E3 presentation. They showed the indies off more than they ever had before. Third party AAA budget games are dying as a profitable business model. EA and Ubisoft are trying to expand their services to store fronts and subscription services. Not to mention they as well as activision are looking to get as much exclusive funding feom MS and Sony as possible for their releases.

Hell the company in question is having a very hard time keeping their head above the water, and all they been releasing beside exclusive titles ard ports and digital games. Ah well I hope the big three really invest in their first party stuff and indie games like No Man's Sky.

I couldn't agree more with you both. Meanwhile in sheepville......
