Forums - Microsoft - China’s Xbox One and games will be totally region locked

dont know where you got those from http://news.xbox.com/2014/07/xbox-one-launch-in-china-september  the suggested retail price is between 99 to 248 yuan  which is between 16 to 40

Online retail prices in mainland china, as well as in-store prices for preorders in china, too.

I should probably use this moment to state that while I live in Japan, I work for a company based in China designing and manufacturing PC, Console and mobile addons/accessories. so I am in mainland china and around HK a lot.

Prices across china are more or less the same as the prices in the US, and for virtually all hk/china residents, that's what actually matters.

So the middle class will be stuck with an expensive gimped console, while the rich will just sneak in non-China consoles and uncensored games.

Sony and Nintendo will be in the same boat. So it's equal opportunity shittiness for Chinese console gamers. Probably a reason why console gaming will always be shit and low popularity in China for the forseeable future. It's easier for gamers to find workarounds for internet blocking on PCs.

There is virtually no sneaking involved at all, the console is freely available both in stores and online in HK/China, the grey imports (american consoles/games) aren't even overpriced, the retail preorder price for the official chinese xbox one is actually higher than what the grey imports were selling for to begin with, so what's going to happen there is grey import prices increasing to match the local release, or because theyre not region locked, actually jumping to be even higher than the legit releases, thus overall sales decreases.

Will be the same for everyone, the situation in general with flashcarts, piracy and clones should give a good indicator of how much most chinese actually care about bans and laws, anyone from any walk of life can, without any issue, walk into a store in china or hong kong and buy any of the currently released consoles, and walk home without issue.

It has been that way since the ban was introduced, and regitimate releases do very little in the longrun, the restrictions that get added to local machines in order to legally sell there, negatively impact the sales as much as the additional advertising from legitimate availability positively impacts it.

Basically put, sales won't change much, if at all, we'll just get a slightly better idea of actual sales there (though still way off thanks to grey imports).

China isn't on it. Tier 2 countries is though.

Unofficially it was when the XB one first to China with huge MS marketing threads started appearing. So it can be unofficially taken off (i.e. not be officially added).

Lol MS marketing a "suggested" retail price to make it appear that games will be cheap.

I do wonder if there was a deliberate intent to initially mislead the market with all this "not locked" stuff and get people hyped, in the hope that people wouldn't notice when the opposite turns out to be true. THREAD HIJACK: kinda like the initial hype around EA Access dying down now that the reality of what you'll get for $30 a year has kicked in, and the implications of several publisher subscription passes is dawning on people. /THREAD HIJACK

Look at it for what it is, they already offer all of the games on xbox one as grey imports, even if Microsoft gives them a much lower RRP, it gives them two options:

1) make a loss on the current stock of grey imports by dropping the price to match, or..
2) bump up the price of locally released games to match the grey imports, preventing loss of investment on the imports while increasing profit of the locally sold games.

It doesn't take a PHD to guess which one they'll run with.

Tamron, all of your games listed are import version

Because thats what's currently available, if you walk into a chinese electronics store right now, however, you'll see over with their xbox one games "preorder ch version" all of which are the same pricing as the imports.

PS4 chinese versions are listed as coming in october, too.

Not really thinking Tier 2 is much of an entry, either. x.X If even half of those new countries go as lopsided as Germany has gone, (heck, even if the ratio is only half as bad,) Tier 2 will narrow the gap... a little bit... but thinking the only real shot Microsoft's got of even getting global parity, let alone 'winning,' is trying to snag a sizable lead in the U.S. and U.K.

Maybe you don't know the HK version of most Xbox one retail games official price will be between HKD349-419(Forza 5 and DR3 will be 349 btw),so RMB249(or cheaper) for games like Forza 5 is 100% sure thing.

I'm 100% sure none of any official approved site are allowed to pre-order china version Xbox One games yet

And before talking about "reality",do you even know BF4 and Ryse are not approved in China?

And hey,the official announced Forza 5 will be RMB249,where is your 339 from?
