This story is essentially a straight rip from here

Again, it just seems like mixed messaging from Nintendo once again.  Wii U was designed for the hardcore player (fyi I don't identify as this and online usage is not on my "checklist") and Hyrule Warriors is specifically the "loveletter" to hardcore Zelda fans and gives them everything they want that couldn't necessarily fit into a traditional cannon Zelda game.  And yet no online multiplayer...

Am I wrong on the common sense of this move?  I understand that Co-op has some hurdles when it comes to online play since you ahve to communicate with each other (why I think nsmbw+u shouldn't have had online co-op), but here you have a gamepade and have a number of potential tools at your disposal:

  • The screen could be used to face chat
  • The screen could be used to literally see the other persons screen, vice versa (solves so many problems!)
  • You can voice chat with the gampad if all else fails
  • You could share a map and use the stylus to mark things on it
I mean the amount of creativity with the gampad in online multiplayer can be explore so much, and yet it's a missed opportunity for a game that actually could use it since it's aiming itself at the hardcore.  How hard is it to implement this functionality?  Do you think it's a question of Nintendo didn't have enough time?  They couldn't think of any worthwhile ideas?  It would have to much lag a la SSB?  Or do they actually think it would detter the experience?

I don't really know. I like playing online with friend, but I'd still rather have them sit next to me in local multiplayer. It's too bad, but it isn't a dealbraker

Local multiplayer is always better imo.  And I think most online fanatics would agree of that as well.

But the bottom line is the two aren't mutually exclusive.

I really like OP's suggestions. They seem like really cool gameplay ideas. However, Nintendo has an idea of how well this game is going to sell and in their eyes it probably isn't worth it. Which sucks...

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

But wait. I thought the game had an online multiplayer mode... aren't we jumping to conclusions too quickly?

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

The extent to what online functionality it has will probably remain unknown until the release date gets super close.  But right now it sounds like co-op is def. ruled out.

I'd certainly be curious as to how else they'll implement it, if they do.

There are small details for the online capabilities on the game's Japanese page. Used Google Translate, forgive poor wording:

Buy additional content (DLC confirmed)

Automatic posting of play status to Miiverse

Play the special battle in adventure mode (this is probably our mystery online mode)

Page here: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/software/bwpj/index.html

We'll probably learn what that mode is during the Hyrule Warriors Direct on Monday.

I like playing online with my friends, least that way, they can eat their own food instead of taking my food from the fridge T_T

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

HW will have online functionality, but no online co-op! Hmmm.. Maybe HW will have instead some sort of a PvP mode like RealGamingExpert suggested? :-/
