Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony is currently in break up talks with major investors and Morgan Stanley.

Ironically it was the GAMING DIVISION that destroyed this once glorious company.

The rise of the gaming toy division directly correlates to the fall of the more lucrative TV and Portable Music markets once dominated by Sony.

Ok, how do you blame the decade long $8 billion losses of the TV division on the gaming division?

Objective facts backed up by legitimate sources vs kids bitching and screaming inane comments like 'ur mad', etc. What a laugh for sales based forum.

Ironically the PS3 failed so badly that a book was published called "Why the PS3 failed."

http://kotaku.com/297947/new-japanese-book-asks-why-ps3-failed

It's available online if you can read Japanese.

The device cost Sony over 8 BILLION in losses.

http://www.vg247.com/2009/10/30/sony-ps-division-has-lost-4-7-billion-since-launching-ps3/

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-05-10-sony-playstation-division-suffers-full-year-USD2-8bn-loss

For you little console warriors in the audience, this is more than double the loss incurred by the xbox division at Microsoft.

Sony as a whole is only valued at 18 Billion.

You can reasonably claim your facts are objective, but your agenda and your attention are very obvious. For the express purpose of flamebaiting riling up Sony fans because you have nothing better to do.

Pointless as it maybe you are underqualified to post these facts because you don't have the repitoire of posters like kowenikki.

I would guess your lack of experience is the reason for your posting of outdated links.

Regardless, like wealth of posters before you and that will undoubtedly change nothing. Reality is reality, and the Reality is that Sony, while not finacially healthy, is recovering.

The best part about your objective facts is that you use facts and igregiously fallacious reasoning: your argument is that Sony is gonna break of PS because Sony hasn't been profitable? You do realize that makes no sense right? Why would they sell off a part of the company that profits, even if the profit is small compared to Insurance.

Silly. Seems like your the child just posting links you googled, without even the common reasoning skills to understand basic facts.

You need to calm down.

Sensing imminent disaster Sony's American CEO, Jack Tretton recently jumped ship.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/3/6/5478778/jack-tretton-steps-down-as-ceo-of-sony-computer-entertainment-america

In his departure he said he had "mixed feelings" about leaving the company.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/03/06/a-message-from-jack-tretton/

Now why would he have "mixed feelings?"

Well it's because he knows the company has no future. He was happy to leave. He's now employed by a major technology firm.

Soooooo we're back to 'our only hope of the PS4 not winning is if the entire company goes under?'

I will say this about the doom 'n gloomers. The better the console they are doom n glooming does, the harder they try. O.o

If the entire company goes under it doesnt mean the end of the company not by a long shot, and even if every sector crashes and burns someone would buy the playstation brand and Sony Worldwide studios as it is a fairly good investment as things stand currently.

Best thread ever.

Tell that to Zenith, RCA, and several other electronics companies that have gone the way of the dodo.

Sony is actually doing worse than all of them were at their lowest point.

But hey, thanks for backing you uninformed opinion with facts. Oh wait...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't actually lend any credibility to this viewpoint. I just remember seeing it pop up in the Xbox forums, back before the consoles even released, when it looks like Sony was pretty much running away with all the preorders. Turned from 'the reasons the Xbox would actually win on the market,' to the idea that 'Xbox would be the only one left standing anyway, so why bother getting a PlayStation?' Was hilarious back then, it is still hilarious now.

especially when a group of them got very excited about news that Sony was spinning off the PlayStation division, and I had to tell them five separate times that no, they were talking about MAYBE spinning off a completely DIFFERENT division, just look at this article, it literally says so. But no, no, for a month it was 'Sony is selling Playstatioooon' -_-

Mods might as well lock this cause its flamebait at best, trolling at worst.

Your second article is just mistitled.  In the detail it says $2.8B loss is not in gaming but including PCs, TV & audio, mobile, and digital cameras together.

You can see the breakdown was small profit in Gaming, and all the losses in TV, Mobile & Vaio segments.

If you do the math from PS1, PS2, PS3 then PlayStation is in the black over $1billion and Xbox is in the red.
