Don't know. That's what I want to know. Some say it's shipped, some are saying its sold - I want to know (with proof) which it is.

Nintendo has sold them to retailers, but the retailers has not sold all of them to people.

I know what shipped means, and I know what sold means. Just saying that the OP says it's shipped, others in this thread are saying it's sold, and one post even asked the OP to adjust his post to say 'sold'.

So what I want to know - is where, with a link to prove it, can we find out whether these figures Nintendo have released represent shipped, or whether they represent sold.

From Nintendos point of view, they are sold.

And I say again, I get the difference between. We can't blindly assume these figures are shipped, because Nintendo have reported sold-through figures before. Proof from last month:

"Nintendo has given us confirmation that Mario Kart 8's global sell-through is approximately 2 million in less than a month, as announced by Genyo Takeda speaking on behalf of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata." http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/06/27/2-million-copies-of-mario-kart-8-have-reportedly-been-sold

So, for this month, are we actually 100% sure that someone at Nintendo said that these figures represent shipped to retailers? BEcause I've  just gone through all documents and can't find it either way. I want to know from those who think it's sold-through, where they're getting their info from.

If it is shipped, then I'm seeing a lot of apples and oranges being compared in this thread.

That's amazing! The only good news to come from yesterday's financial results. Hopefully it will go on to sell 5+ million units.

Stop calling the Gamecube a failure. It made Nintendo tons of money.

Nintendo expected to ship 51 Million GameCubes by 2005 when they launched it....and it didn't even reach half of that. They also wanted to expand their audience from the N64, and the audience actually shrunk. Support from 3rd Parties dwindled even further due to the lack of cooperations with Nintendo on the hardware. They made money because of the fact that Gamecube was profitable upon launch; however, recall what Iwata said prior to the launch of Wii. He clearly stated that if all Wii did was sell less than GameCube, then it would be a failure. "GameCube" numbers, despite being profitable, is a mark for failure according to Iwata, he set the bar that low for failure. Sure, some goals aren't met for many companies, and many gadgets sell below their forecasts, but expecting 51 Million and only selling 21 million is a HUGE failure in terms of forecasted vs actual. Although Microsoft lost money during their Xbox 1 days, they still created an audience larger than the audience for a console from a Game Industry veteran, and that Xbox audience expanded to the 360. I enjoyed the Gamecube, had a few must haves, but it was still a failure, me enjoying the console doesn't change the fact.

Whenever someone gives "sell-THROUGH" values, that means it was sold to customers, not retailers. Takeda gave a Sold-through value on the 27th of June, so it was sold to customers at that time. Nintendo's Financial Reports are always shipped unless otherwise stated in press-releases, because that's how it has always been. If you don't believe me, then consider this: How could Nintendo have sold both approximately 2 million and 2.8 million to customers for roughtly the same time period, how does that make any sense? We're talking about Q1, which ended on the 30th of June. Takeda confirmed 2 million to customers (sell-through) on the 27th, the 2.8 million value was given up to the 30th, does anyone honestly expect they sold the rest of 700-800K in only 3 days? No, they have shipped 2.8 million to retailers (sold-in) and approximately 2.0 million were sold to customers (sell-through). How much is it now? Well, if we assume the usual Mario Kart legs, it probably sold less than last month, 200K +/-  for all of July.

Losing 90 million is a lot better than hundreds of millions of dollars, am I right? Profit is on the horizon for Nintendo I can sense it

One thing that's worrying, is how they were able to lose more than last year during the same time period, despite the fact they had a multi-million seller like Mario Kart 8. How exactly are operations going on at Nintendo to make them lose that much money?

I hope Wii U manages to always stay ahead of XBone. It's a healthier state of affairs for the industry and games like MK8 help a whole lot. Hopefully Smash Bros will do the same for the console.

Will most certainly buy a Wii U when Zelda comes out as my second console of the 8th Gen.

Yeah XB1 isnt' as good as PS4 or Wii U. At least last gen XB360 had some graphically impressive 3rd party titles to PS3 and a better online experience, but now Sony seems to be besting the One at both. Also Nintendo comes out with a lot better first party titles than Microsoft by far so Wii U should hopefully at least come 2nd. I don't even care if it beats the One by 1m units worldwide, as long as it's ahead
