Forums - Gaming - What is the big whoop about K Rool and the Kremlings?

After buying Rareware, Microsoft owns all the rights, this is also why all DKC games were removed from the Wii virtual console. I do not miss K-Rool but I miss the bees.

Will need to see a source on both of these claims please.

No K.Rool as DK's enemy is like no Bowser for Mario. It's just weird.

Now, K.Rool in Smash Bros, I agree, would be incredible. I wouldn't even care if he plays almost exactly like Bowser, honestly.

Biggest reason I would want him isn't for nostalgia's sake (I didn't play much DKC as a kid, DK64 was my biggest DK exposure), but because I feel like the game should have at least one major enemy for all the major protagonist playables. Mario has Bowser, Link has Ganondorf, etc. I think Riley and K.Rool would make excellent additions to the game.

Because King K. Rool and the Kremlings were original baddies with a unique personality to them. Then we got the uninspired, generic baddies in DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I can agree with Returns, but the snomads were awesome.

Donkey Kong without K. Rool is like Mario without Bowser. Of course, thanks to Retro, now it's more like Zelda without Ganon, but people want it to return to being like Mario without Bowser. It's not all nostalgia, it's tradition for the portion of the fanbase that has been there since the beginning.

False. Holy shit does this myth piss me off. If Kremlings being in Smash didn't convince you, here's some info for you.

This.

They were never particularly creative or noteworthy villains, and we've had three games of them already, I wouldn't mind if they never come back.

K. Rool was the anti-Bowser. While Bowser for the longest time was this super-generic dragon villain, K Rool at the time oozed personality, in terms of the many roles he undertook (king, pirate captain, technology expert, boxer in DK64). K Rool can be seen as the model for what Bowser slowly grew into, a more dynamic villain with a lot more to say about himself than "Capture Peach rawr!"

That said, he's still a bit overrated, but there is certainly much to be said for him.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
