Donkey Kong without K. Rool is like Mario without Bowser. Of course, thanks to Retro, now it's more like Zelda without Ganon, but people want it to return to being like Mario without Bowser. It's not all nostalgia, it's tradition for the portion of the fanbase that has been there since the beginning.
