an iphone is a necessity. lunch is a necessity. a game isnt. its that simple.

An iphone is NOT a necessity.

For some people it is. Think of a business man who constantly needs to check his email on the go, make skype calls, use whatever app lets him do his work, etc.

@bold... if only the manufacturers of Skype had some sort of phone that you could also use their software on!

But yeah the logic of an iPhone being on the same lvl of necessity as food is actually pretty scary if I'm honest.

Regarding the OP this was always going to happen, since almost every app now offers you a good taste of the full game for little to no money but there are 1000s of new aps to download before you would complete the free portions of each one that you download there is no reason for the casual 5mins on the bog gamer to actually spend cash on the games, just delete them and download another handful of free stuff and use what is free in those before moving on. The market has tried to go for the drug dealer approach of... the first hit is free, but the ios store at this stage has millions of dealers all offering that same deal, killing their market.

The damage its doing to Nintendo is much more severe as its effectively alienated Nintendo from casuals and a lot of kids too.

I fly a lot for work and pretty much every airport I'm sitting in, I see families with kids that are playing on an iPad/tablet/mom's iPhone outnumbering the 3DS/DS/PSP/Vita by like a 10:1 ratio. It's not even close anymore.

Shame but true.

Its not that bad. Sure the ios devices has taken some of the potential handheld buyers, but its not like theyre the same. Gamers will pick handhelds every time and casuals will probably be ok with their phone or Ipad.

All they can do is blame themselves. They should have set a minimum bar.

This would weed out all the shitty clones that are free and littered with ads.

This is a sad reality. the 3DS and VITA are like the best two portable hardware both have produced in their own unique way. They have a few great games each but sadly most devs are no interested anymore for both systems.

Just makes you wish that both these come out last gen.

Then I do not think Apple understands the issue...

Yeah, if someone spent 600$ on an iPad, it should be nothing to spend 4$ on a game... The problem, in my oppinion, is the very poor quality of the majority of games on the AppStore, people know that the majority of games will be crap. And then there are those games you spend 4$ but then need to spend a tone of $ to actually enjoy it...

Customers are just becoming more informed and well aware of this which lead them to be very cautious.

Somehow reminds me of the Nintendo third party dilemma. xD

You make alot of shit then people will notice. Then it will take you years and alot ALOT! of effort in regaining the trust.

too late to do anything, people are used to paying nothing and next to nothing for these games.

Apple has helped to make this bed.......They pitched the idea that something free/very cheap was a substitute for something that cost much more make (and sell).

They are just getting a taste of the frustration that Nintendo and Sony's mobile divisions must have been facing over the past few years.

It's also the fact that digital products don't seem as tangible to our brains. A physical product always is easier for our brains to wrap our heads around.

Things that are digital have a very fleeting feel to them
