Forums - Sales - PREDICTION: Xbox1 will not win NPD when Halo 5 is released.

This myth that keeps getting perpetuated that a single game will "turn the tide" for the Xbox is getting tiresome. If Titanfall couldn't turn things around, nor a $100 less expensive model without Kinect, nor bundles at ridiculous prices with multiple free games, what makes you think Halo 5 or indeed ANY game will magically make people consider buying one? This "war" is over, Microsoft lost.

Now that's bold. Good luck with that.

After Destiny is released and thru the holidays, I think PS4 will have about a 2-to-1 advantage for NPD hardware sales.  Also, with imminent releases of various 3rd party games that are superior on the PS4, the momentum of the PS4 hardware sales advantage will be carried for a long time.

I'm assuming Halo 5 will be release for holiday 2015 (Oct/Nov).  If Uncharted 4 is released within a month from Halo 5, Xbox1 definitely will not win NPD.  Even without Uncharted 4, I think it'll be close, but holiday releases are crowded with too many games and Halo 5 won't be enough to win NPD.

I think halo 5 is going to continue the trend of being less and less popular every game. Uncharted honestly seems to have a flat line for sales, so I'm guessing aroung 6 million units. By next year, both will have sizable total sales. But honestly, I think the NPD will stay at around the same ratio for a while. I think destiny will help the sales more for ps4 though. I'm not sure if Halo MCC or LBP3 will have a larger impact on sales. either. But as for halo 5's release not boosting sales in NPD past ps4, I'm not sure. It depends on when it comes out. If it's the same month as uncharted 4, it's a toss up. If it's different months, the xbox one will definitely win in at least North America. As a massive sony fan, I've gotta say this prediction sounds a little bit too optimistic.

I think you're wrong.

I feel like a lot of the Halo 5 buyers will jump in during the MCC release this year, even though X1 will most likely be cheaper once 5 comes out. UC is not as big of a franchise as Halo and I think the US fanbase is a bit more varied in what they play so their system purchases will be spread across time. So there is a lot of factors if they go head to head.

Going back to what I said, I honestly think the Halo fans will jump into a likely MCC bundle(perhaps $350 black friday) and that will effect sales during Halo 5 week, so the boost will not be as large as launching Halo 5 by itself.

edit: I dont see anything near a 2:1 sales game in NA or the world for that matter. There is only so many console gamers that are willing to jump in on game starved consoles.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

While it's true that one game doesn't turn the tide, I'm tired of hearing the argument when people dring up a game boosting sales. Big games always boost sales, often by 100k or more for a couple weeks. Then big games also often times increase the baseline. And yes, one single game rarely turns someone from not buying one to buying one, but people do often get pushed over the edge into buying a console from one more game coming out.

it might not even make it through this year its highly possible that the xb1 can at least take one month npd this year id bet on Nov. halo mcc, codaw and BF bundles could do the trick

halo usually releases sept and Unc usually oct. if the xb1 doesnt win any npds this year and next you can bet that MS will cut the price next year inline with halo 5 so theres a good chance it will win at least one npd again next yr

this yrs performance should be taken with a grain of salt TF although hyped wasnt the next big thing in FPS real gamers saw that even when it was first shown. the price cut was another fumble for MS what the hell was that? it was announced pre maturely and it was during a dull time imo would had better impact during sept onward which we might even see affects of its current price cut then

You don't have to agree or disagree. The writing is on the wall whether you accept reality or not.

I don't think Halo is as relevant today as people think it is. I am more interested in the nostalgia of Halo (i.e. Halo Master Chief Collection) than new Halo (i.e. Halo 5)

I have completed all the Halo games before, but didn't complete Halo 4

Just don't care about new non-bungie Halo after Halo Reach was a great last game for such a good series.

I think you have a good chance of being correct. But it's over a year away, and anything can happen until then.
I think the greatest threat to your prediction is a series of price cuts until then, and the high probability of the game being bundled in for free.
