Quite honestly, the situation only changed because Microsoft went for a dramatic price cut heavily bundled and hugely advertised, eating up huge losses and Nintendo was as passive as can be. I dont think there was anything wrong with the predictions at the time this thread was made. We cant predict some things. Could have also happened that Microsoft threw the towel and exited the market.

Poor crow eaters in this thread.
Xbox One is second this gen, and was always destined to be. Xbox at least has strong US and UK whilst Wii U doesn't really have a strong anywhere, apart from maybe Japan but that's tiny and declining.

Yes, easy. Only chance WiiU has is when really big games like The Legend of Zelda release. Sounds harsh, but probably true.

By the absolute huge margins that the XBox sold Wii U, I think its safe to say it was always going to happen regardless of a price cutt. They were selling neck and neck not long after MK8, so the third party titles we saw in Q3/4 was always going to push Xbox beyond the Wii U.

You are assuming a reality where Microsoft didnt do anything and Nintendo didnt do anything. We can be here all day pondering scenarios if one or the other did things differently. The fact here is given the sales values at the time, it was a fair analysis.

In fact it is you that is pondering scenarios here. What happened is what happened at the end of the day. Microsoft outsold Nintendo albeit with a price cut and other factors such as 3rd party support (and remember even with Big hitters such as MK8 and SSB we are only talking about neck to neck sales at best for Nintendo whist MS had nothing major in terms of games). That is how competition works and realistically everyone knows MS was in a better position to implement competitive strategies.

Even though X1 is very weak in the Global, apart from Nov and Dec, it will easy maintain and then increase the Gap VS WiiU when fire sales will start again.

I hope Nintendo will release a great machine next time, probably Nov 2016/2017.
