Forums - Gaming - Sony is looking at remastering PS3 titles the same way Disney remasters movies

So i take it this is why (or at least one of the big reasons) there was no backwards compatibility.

See, there is one thing though with this. I can understand Disney remastering it's classics... like someof them at 20+ years or older and they were wonderful movies for both kids and adults. in 20 yers, there is a whole new generation and new technology. I doubt a lot of people have VCRs anymore to wathc the really old classics so remastering them, cleaning them up works great. As for Sony here... they are "remastering" games that are a year old simply because they sold well and they know people will buy them and it takes them less time and a lot less money to make them and they know they will probably make more over all than the orignal did espeically for games like TLOU. It is just... odd. If it was some of their PS1 games, yeah, by all means, go ahead and remaster those but games that are a year to5 years old? No.

The only way ps4 would have retrocompatibility is if it used the Cell architecture.

And nobody wants that

Then please wait also as long as Disney with the remasters of old movies and don't do it with games one year after release...

Why does he think people skipped the PS3 if they would have been so interested in games like Uncharted, TLoU and the likes? I said that in another thread before, there will be enough people who buy these remasters so that it will be very successful financially but most of the sales will probably go to people who are already fans of it. I want to see all these people who paid 400 bucks for a PS4 and who are so interested in remastered versions of games they didn't buy a 130 bucks console for.

And this goes also for something like The MCC on Xbox One. Most who are interested in that are Halo fans and not random guys who "want to get the opportunity to play Halo on a 400 Euro console even if this games series didn't convince them to buy a cheap 360"

well... as much as this may suck i would actually like to see Drakengard 3 get a better version... solid 60fps,faster loading times, better textures, and reworked models would be awesome... but that wont happen... its too much of a niche tittle...

Because they are 1st place, they can afford to do this. Minimal cost with maximum return potential.

Basically.

If the cost is minimal, I would think that position wouldn't matter at all. If a remaster only costs a fraction of the original budgetm then at £40 a pop, even if only 100K sell, that's what? £1.2M of almost pure profit (since not much money would need to go into recouping dev costs). And that's for low sales.

I don't think being in 1st place has anything to do with the affordability (in terms of marketshare) of that kind of potential. Not to mention, they still have games coming out, so it's not like "we're in first, so we're not gonna give new games, only old ones". Nintendo could remaster Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for WiiU and Microsoft could remaster Lost Odyssey for XBone, and as long as they're still releasing the new games they told us they're going to release, there should be absolutely no complaints. The fact that TLOU was in the works didn't prevent I:SS from coming out, nor did it put UC4 behind schedule, for example (for people who would say that Sony should put their resources elsewhere). So what's the problem?

Sony could announce 100 remasters right now, and as long as DriveClub, LBP3, Blodbourne, etc. come out...why should I or anyone else take issue with it? As long as remasters don't tamper with the production schedule of other games, being able to "afford to make them" has absolutely 0 relevance. If they don't interefere with other games, all the companies can afford minimal cost with maximum return potential.

As long as the new games keep flowing, it's cool for me. I won't be spending money on games I've played BUT I can easily look up for a good game I might have skipped, as long as the price is right.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

The most likely one I see happening is uncharted trilogy.
