Forums - Sony - Video:Excuses Why PS4 Is Selling Is Irrelevant

"Ah, I see, so basically it all comes down to "if it sells like Wii, it's a bad console", right? And Wii was all "teh cazualz", so if nothing is selling to "teh cazualz", it's not a problem, because who needs "teh cazualz", right? I see what your game is, now."

Of course the WII is not a good comparison because it has the most strange sales curve in the history of gaming. The Ps4 will probably not dot the same numbers that the Ps2 but I don't understand how you can judge the Ps4 now. You should just wait because this kind of console has better legs than the Wii. Ps4 should be compare to consoles like the Ps1 or Ps2.

And when I used the word "ridiculous"  it's not about your statements but because if we compare the leaders of every generation finally the WII has the lowest numbers (Since the SNES) despite of its amazing first years. So to use the numbers of the WII to say that the Ps4 is doing bad sales it's not very relevent because finally the PsOne was doing the same and at the end sold more consoles than the WII.

I don't know what will be the situation in the next years but I am sure that is too soon to say that the Ps4 is not doing well. However, I am not saying that you are wrong just that it's too soon.

Edit : And I never said that the Wii was a bad console just a bad exemple

I never asserted that the generation was going to be a weak one. I said sales now are anaemic, that PS4 sales right now aren't nearly as good as many people seem to think. It isn't a value judgment on the PS4, or its potential to sell, it's a comment on what is happening right now. If nothing changes, the generation will be weak...

And to be entirely blunt, I mostly blame third parties. But I have hope that at least one of the consoles will strengthen. I primarily expect PS4 to do so. I hope Wii U does, as it's the console I own, and I cannot at this time afford multiple consoles (plus I'm a big fan of Nintendo's franchises, so more success means more chance of seeing the "lesser" franchises).

ps4 is selling well, thats all there is to it.

you can say "it only looks like it because the others are selling poorly" but if multiple consoles are selling poorly, and it somehow managed to not sell poorly too, then its by comparison, SELLING WELL.

deal with it.

So PS4+XBO is doing barely better per week than PS3+360 was doing in equivalent times, and this is despite the higher current install base (PS3 was at 3.8 million, 360 at 3.6 million). So I'm not sure where the assertion that software is doing well comes from.

Next time, before you call me ridiculous, you could actually check the facts, rather than just how you're feeling about things. The fact that you feel as though the industry is doing well right now doesn't count as a fact in this regard.

Great analysis... but I have to disagree with the point you are ultimately trying to make. I don't know why you are grouping combines sales of both consoles. Especially when this thread is specifically about PS4. If you wanna look at a LTD for PS4 compared to that of PS3 over the same time period, PS3 was around 3.8 million sold and the PS4 is current at around 8.2M sold. I don't know how you can look at that and in any way or sense of the word call that barely selling better than its predecessor.

But it IS selling well. Period. Dot. The end. It's outsold its predecessor like mad during the same timeframe. Same for the Xbox 360. It's outselling both during its first summer. What would be an acceptable sales level for you? 300k weekly? 400k? PS4's "anaemic" sales are an indicator of what time of the year it is, not a referendum on the state of the console. This isn't a bad thing, it's a historical trend. Anyone who thought those incredible sales would continue through the first summer drought doesn't understand the industry. And anyone who doesn't think they'll see a massive spike this fall is insane, same goes for X1.

Again: current sales are NOT anaemic. End of story.

Ok I understand and it's true that right now the Ps4 sales are not incredible but I think it is doing well.

I'm French, and perhaps that's why I'm curious to understand what is this style purpose. Is it disdainful ?

That's the first time I see that and... Wow, the English language would look a lot better written like that lol

But the PS4 isn't really selling super well...? Its relatively good, but its more that XBO/Wii U are selling badly, and I think that the argument is that PS4 doesn't deserve to be selling so well relative to the others.

The fact that the PS4 is no longer killing it in the sales charts sort of destroys the whole video >.> (it also sounds like the guy who made it is a major fanboy...)

Sounds like excuses. Also what kind of fanboy does he sound like, because BrokenGamez is a PC gamer. He only buys exclusives on console. Perhaps he sounds like a fanboy to you because you disagree with him?

Excuses? Sundin13 nailed it. PS4 is getting a good weekly market share but poor sales. 100k per week is actually bad, it's even less than what PS3 was doing back in 2007/2008 when the Wii was eating it alive. This is more about the very low sales of WiiU and XOne, which puts PS4 with a strong market share.

Regarding BrokenGamez, I don't know if he is a fanboy or not. But owning a PC or the console X or Y or even all platforms doesn't give a fanboy-free certificate to anybody. Fanboyism is in people's attitudes, not in people's belongings.

Prediction made in 14/01/2014 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 100M      XOne: 70M      WiiU: 25M

Prediction made in 01/04/2016 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 100M      XOne: 50M      WiiU: 18M

Prediction made in 15/04/2017 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 90M      XOne: 40M      WiiU: 15M      Switch: 20M

Prediction made in 24/03/2018 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 110M      XOne: 50M      WiiU: 14M      Switch: 65M

The fact that the PS4 is selling 35K better than two other consoles that are selling terribly is not really relevant, it's not selling well at all. The Wii didn't dip below 100K until March 2012, nearly 5 and a half years after its release. What this means is that this generation was a dud.

I think this has a lot to do with Wii debuting at $250. 400 bucks isn't mass market price.
