There's nothing wrong with remakes or remasters, there is something wrong with doing one just a year after the original was released. It's a quick cash grab, and it shows that the company had little planned in terms of original content for that release period. It also means that the company is spending lots of money advertising the game over again, even if the development cost is just a fraction of the original. If we start to see remasters replacing brand new AAA titles as TLOU is this summer, I'll be disappointed. There are few AAA PS4 games ready other than TLOU for this summer from Sony.

What are the negatives that outweigh the positives I've given? Also, you seem to have missed someone's post. "ND wouldn't be able to make a AAA game in the between development periods. Its literally a matter of Remaster vs Nothing, to suggest that a Remaster is somehow preventing a new game is mistaken." |
They dont need to make an AAA game...
New games are needed in order for the industry to move forward. New games, new ideas, new perspectives. New original games attract new people into the gaming scene and sequels makes sure the ones in it stay. Remasters wont attract new people or make gamers more excited.

By what standard though? If people were asking for it, why not give them what they asked for? |
It's not necessarily the problem here, the problem is that Sony is spending a lot of money advertising an older game that they quickly remastered because they were ill prepared for the summer release period. If TLOU was just a side game with a release schedule of multiple new games, it would be fine. As it is, they are using a year-old title as their flagship title for the summer, which is a slap in the face for people who bought a PS4 for original content. Sure, 50% of people never owned a PS3, but what about the other 50% that already had one and want new games? That's the problem here.

-They can't make any new game between development. They need to sit down and talk about what they are going to do. In the meantime they can remake a game easy. -New games are also needed for remakes. So, it isn't possible for the market to just become remakes. -I agree, but where is it happening that remakes are holding back new titles. -Remasters do, of course attract new people. TLoU will attract - Xbox 360 only gamers, PC gamers that need 60 fps, people that were expecting a PS4 version. That's very potentially a large market of new people. |
Remakes are one thing, but we`re talking about remastered games. There is no need for them what so ever. If there ever was a need for them, it would be for games that run horribly and is basically unplayable.
In the past, there were always these threads saying things like "Which Gamecube games do you want on 3DS" or something along those lines. There's always been an audience for re-releases/remakes. And in all of those threads, you'd find some people that say "We don't want old games. We want new games."
This whole love hate thing with re-released games is nothing new. It's just getting more attention now. Nothing else to talk about, I guess.
At first I used to think "why do they keep milking old games that were already in HD?" but then I realized that there's nothing wrong with that since peole who didn't play those games now will be able to play them and making HD HD remasters won't stop the developers from making new games also they aren't forcing me to buy them.

Better than not having any title. It'll get better. |
I agree. It's just frustrating having to go months without original content because of bad planning.

What on earth are you talking about? If they wanted to play it, they would have bought a PS3...

They don't need to make a new AA as well.
Not to mention, creating a game or even simply a new idea is very difficult. You don't create a good game on demand, especially if you want it to be succesful.
Not to mention how is a new AA supposed to compete with a Remastered AAA game?
