Lol a poll of of a little over 200k people doesn't mean much. That poll isn't going to translate into sales. I thought all 3 did a good job though

lol it was 1200 people...

I've seen this stated twice in this thread now, I'm not sure if it was you both times, but both times it was wrong.

http://au.ign.com/videos/2014/07/07/e3-2014-microsoft-nintendo-sony-the-results-ign-versus (20 second mark)

It clearly states at around the 20 second mark, 225 000 views, and 125 000 votes.  Now I'll agree that it doesn't necessarily mean that much unless all of those people go out and buy the system but if we imagine that represents a sample of the general sentiment then that is significant.  125 000 votes represent a massive number of respondents for a single survey in any forum, big decisions are made and millions of dollars spent based on results from surveys with much smaller sample sizes than this one.

Oh, I remembered that wrong then. My bad:)

Well then, looks like I have my work cut out for me at IGN. Trolls will be rolling, and bans will be flying.

Are you a mod on the IGN boards?

Not the boards, but everything else(Articles, wikis, blogs, videos etc.)

Wow you have an interesting yet probably painful job. Godspeed to you good sir!

Nintendo has to win something at least. Except the lack of third party is still a glaring omission in its lineup

Sony and MS hasnt won shit yet either, so...

The PS4 is clearly "winning" the 8th generation console race and not simply by contracting and failing less than the competition but by actually growing in total unit sales and total profitability over the PS3. I know it is an awfully early prediction but it should be patently obviously that the PS4 is going to race past the PS3 in terms of hardware & software sales and without having to burn billions of dollars to do so.

Well your right about not having to start with billions in the hole, as I still don't think Sony has recovered all the R&D money from the PS3. Sony only just recently just said that PS4 was starting to make a profit on each unit. So if MS has been making a profit off the Xbox since it launched I would said MS has made more money that Sony so far, however I haven't ever heard anything on Xbox One's profitabilty per unit. I actually think all 3 consoles will sell less than their predcessors simply because the market has shrunk.

Sony has shifted the market 3 times at E3.

1994 they announce $100 less than Saturn then SEGA releases the same day.  Market shifts to Sony as a result.

2006 they announce $600, giant enemy crabs, riiiiiiiiidge racer, and as a result MS takes a big chunk of the market as a result

2013 they announce $400, show the hardware, and then the big one NO USED GAME RESTRICTIONS and shif the market back to themselves as a result

Yes announcing prices on such a huge stage counts as a part of E3

Get Your Portable ID!Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

Nintendo easily had the best E3 conference, so I;m happy with the result!

Despite that some companies shitted Nintendo, Nintendo had an awesome E3 with very cool games. Wii U sales look way better with Mario Kart 8 and E3 2014.

@KLXVER

Thanks for the acknowledgement of the 3DS. Hahaha some fanboys forget about that.

@thismeintiel

In business there is a certain process called market research. This is where you can test the interest and acknowledgement of a certain product whether it be in focus groups or interviews. Another thing can be polls. In market research, you get feedback on your product from consumers. If all of them are interested in the product or like it, it does not mean that they will definetely buy it but it shows that there is interest in it and potential sales.

In this case we are talking about a conference showing Nintendo products. Although Market research is usally done before the product is in stores it is arlight for market research to be performed during its lifecycle. This poll can be taken as a market research for the Wii U. This poll showed that there is now interest in the Wii U. Nintendo showed games and their conference was great so because of this, interest in the Wii U rose. More interest means more POTENTIAL customers. No one can promise higher sales for the Wii U due to a poll but what we can conclude is potential sales.

Lol, did you seriously just try to talk about market research in reference to a poll on IGN?  That's not market research.  That is getting results from a small part of the population (not just core gamers, but core gamers invested enough in gaming that they actually visit IGN regularly.)  Market research would entail talking a slice of the general population to see if there actually is interest in a product.  Not a site's poll, where most of those who voted one way could already own said product.

Market research: the action or activity of gathering information about consumers' needs and preferences.

Market research involves consumers in general.whether it be random people or gamers or children or anyone else.

IGN gathered information form the viewers and saw that they preferes Nintys conference.

I was equally disappointed with all three. The only games that interested me was Project Spark and GTAV. It was nice to see what Zelda U will look like too.

If Nintendo won then it was a pretty weak win in my opinion.
