Forums - Gaming - EA Charging $4.99 for Demos on Xbox One

Just don't buy the demo. If nobody does, this charging for demos will hopefully be a onetime experience.

Yeah this just seems like an error. Mainly because it is only Xbox One, if they were going to do something so utterly ridiculous they would do in on all consoles.

Geez, I just looked on PSN Store, FIFA 14 on PS3 is £60? Are they insane? Who decided that price? I'd be surprised if anyone bought the digital version at that cost now.

I'm sure FIFA 13 (aka 12) still costs 70€, its a steal

When MS does it, its exploitation. When Sony does it, its them trying to survive so its cool.  Does the price of online really matter anymore these days? You can make your money back on free games in like 2 months tops. 1 month if you find a $30-35 deal on Ebay or Amazon, which happens like 3 or 4 times a year.

In the beginning it was exploitation. As Michael Pachter said, gamers paid for it and because they paid for it, they are sending a message to the industry through their wallets. PC gamers denied it,

Don't put PC gamers on a pedastal like they aren't the reason that people accept paying money for bs like costumes or starting the whole "pay for an incomplete game" early access craze. It was never exploitation, it takes money to run an elite online service. Which is why Sony made it a policy for their console and none of you complained about it.

If only it were that simple we wouldn't have microtransactions either.

I can gladly say I've never paid for a microtransaction

Shame so many people do

(to be more accurate, i have done it but only on F2P games with good models. like Warframe and PoE)

Thank God it all was a mistake!

I mean, we all know how EA as well as other Co. are, but they can't be that stupid to think that this would work. We wouldn't let them win, right?

Please excuse my bad English.

Remember PS online was a joke when it launched. Sony had to invest a lot of money to make the service itself competitive and so they want money back. Nothing wrong with it but people complaining before last gen didn't see that having a reliable online-service won't come for free. Paywalling apps behind gold was still the wrong way, in my opinion.

Paying for demos is not a new invention.

And it's never been a secret that people hold things they've paid for in higher regard.

EA is just combining the two with the obviously fact that Xbox owners like flaunting their excess income. Unless this is a mistake, of course. In either case, it's not news.

In either case it most certainly is news!

People need to know about things like this.

What for?

American corporations capitalizing on another American corporation exploiting gamers with paid online.

Don't you need PS+ to play online?

It never was that way until Microsoft came to gaming with their ridiculous charges. When one company sees gamers willingly paying for online you cant look away. With the financial situation Sonys in I cant blame them. Before then Nintendo and Sony were free for online.

Actually, I should be asking you a question. Wasn't it Microsoft who allowed EA to do this to Xbox One owners? In the end American corporations will always be American corporations. Take exploitation and turn it up.

Seganet says hello. It's where MS got the idea for XBL in the first place.

It is what it is, an experiment.

Please be it an error or otherwise I'm just shocked and speechless...
