Forums - Gaming - ps4 9 million units sold?

If PS4 randomly sold an extra million Sony would scream it from the rooftops. The internet doesn't just miss big stuff like that nowadays. We would have heard about it.

but Sony's been quiet with numbers since April.. even if they sold that extra million, it's still up to them whether or not they release some announcement.  And to your last comment.. the PS4 since launch has been nothing but an anamoly sales wise.. did anyone project they would sell 7 mil into April?  especially for a console  that many claims "has no games".. yet it sold extrememly well.  well enough that it even exceeded Sony's own market analysis and expectations.. So, I'd say for this gen, especially in this first year, anything is quite possible up to this point.

Whats so hard?

As certain markets slow down sony funnels stock to ones that are still hot.

Vg bases all their numbers from a certain few, those might happen to be the slowing down ones. Thus Vg numbers could be quite of. They are pretty bad when compared to ndp, why in the hell would they not be far worse coming up with world wide numbers.

It took years for VGChartz to undertrack 360 by a couple million missing sales here and there. You're believing that same mistake can happen in 2 months for one million consoles. Thats ridiculous

Given their recent track record, id say anything is possible.

A market anomaly happens and quickly they can considerably under or overtrack.

Edit: I dont even think insiderp is that crazy enough to say something like that.

And where does this constant undertracking myth come from?

VGC overtracked the PS4 in the US the last two months... lol

VGC overtracked the PS4 v NPD by 54k in April

VGC overtracked the PS4 v NPD by 13k in May

Lol hilarious. Yet somehow lower NPD and Famitsu translates to higher everything else not being tracked. That's a very low use of analytical skills.

sonys shipped figures for ps3 and ps4

holiday 2013 7.8m (4.2m ps4)

january-march 3.7m (~2.5m - 2.8m ps4)

april - june we still don tknow yet

they missed theire expectasions for 0.4m consoles

forecast for fy 2014 = 17m

how do you track what isn't tracked?  assumptions to market trends and figures is moot if it doesn't apply to some countries or there isn't any anomalies accounted for... Extrapolating data only gives you an estimate because there are assumptions being made, but if this new gen is anything to go by, most assumptions at this point is unreliable, which has caused VG numbers themselves to change almost on a weekly/monthly basis.  Even for markets that are tracked, estimates can still be off when official figures are released.  i'm saying it again.. who would of thought that ps4 would be sitting at 7 mil in 6 months?  Nobody.. not market analysis, not market trends, or best guess estimates.  so how hard is it to believe that the ps4 is sitting at 9 mil at 8+ months?

I'm not saying 9 mil sold through is official.. but I don't see why 9 mil sold through couldn't also be realistic, given the selling rates and demand for the ps4 we've seen so far.

Edit** Not saying market analyzing doesn't have a place in the real world, because they can work for predictive/estimate purposes if stability is there.. but sometimes they can also miss their mark due to market changes/anomalies/trends.  Keyword being STABILITY, and even then anything can happen to make it unstable.  Console gen8 is anything but stable yet.

maybe europe is undertracked?

VGC numbers for europe are kinda pathetic and there no NPD or mediacreate as a proof there.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

Manufactured maybe. Not sold. What joke of an analyst thinks we're less than 5% into this gen?..

6 months (between him and his biggest rival) and they both promote 10 year lifecycles.  That's not to say we won't get new consoles before then but two generations often live side by side for a number of years (like right now).

Even if we pretend that the 8th generation is only the PS4 and Xbone and the 3DS, Vita, and WiiU don't exist, this generation is already 10% over. There's just no way the PS4 and Xbone will get 10 years of support. All 9th gen consoles will be out by 2018, and by 2020 the PS4 and Xbone's sales will be next to nothing.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

March 31st: 7.1m shipped (best estimate) for PS4

March 31st: 6.8m sold to consumers by VGChartz

April 17th: 7m sold to consumers (Official Sony announcment)

April 12th: 7m sold to consumers (VGC numbers)

Simple nuff?

Very accurate.

yes simple and easily 9m sold given its what 11/12 weeks later.

Hang on...

You are saying it has sold through 2m since April 17th?

So you are saying it is averaging 175k per week in that time?

So VGC have undertracked it by almost 1m?

You can't really think that they announce a milestone the day it happens, right? Did you know that the 7m sold was as of April 6?

You seem to be a man of facts, so it's weird that you're either deliberately or not so deliberately using the wrong date. I'm leaning towards you deliberately using the wrong date since googling it brings up lots of results which state "as of April 6th". And as far as I remember VGC didn't had 7M for that time, now they have... all the times Sony gave a report on sold units VGC had to adjust up like 300k or more.
