You can find them in stores basically.  It's barely been a year and you can already find them in stores.  That's not a good sign for the leader of this console generation.

That's a pretty poor metric/criteria to judge how well a console is doing.

So because you are able to find a console in stores within a one year time period, it's doom and gloom? There's probably been TWO gen leaders EVER that might have been sold out for a year straight (PS2 and Wii).

What did the Wii do in it's first year?

By the end of 2007 (roughly 13 months) the Wii had sold around 19.5m and that was with heavy supply constraints.

How the hell did the Wii die fast... It was doing those kinds of numbers for 4 years straight. It only started to die off like the PS4 is now in the last 2 years of its life.

Its quite easy, really. The Wii was a fad and was not catered to a dedicated market like Playstations are.  The PS4 isn't focused on the same focus group. Fads tend to have a high period for a short amount of years and then fall off of the face of the earth once another popular attraction arrives. Tablet casual games rose out of the end of that short period. If Nintendo wasnt short on stock it really would've lasted three years  instead of four. The holidays seasons were the worst, especially with Wii fit. You couldn't find a wii anywhere because women were looking everywhere for them.

Maybe not the Wii's peak, but Sony was dealing with actual dedicated gamers all the way to casuals. The Wii's sales were front-loaded from cateringto non-gamers which is why there is an issue with third party sales on a console that sold 100 M. Sony will reach those numbers over a longer period of time but will enjoy longer lasting success with a more varied library of games.

Of course Wii will have a better peak, but PS4 is bound to have much better legs.

1. The only first party game on the PS4 that casuals could enjoy is LittleBigPlanet 3, IMO.

2. I wouldn't say Wii's sales were front-loaded. It sold well its whole life-cycle up until 2012.

Of course. Wii was in a league of its own. During its peak it even made the PS2 look average. Wii was amazing,

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

1. Casuals play Assassins Creed, COD and other games as well. NIntendo catered the Wii U to a new market that no one had cracked. Non-gamers. People who don't really have the time to game. They dumbed down the console so everyone could get their hands coupled with an extremely attractive price and Wii Sports title.

Sony has only begun to start. They will have better legs as I've said before. Nintendo hasn't enjoyed 60+ m sales without third party so this was their first taste of success trying a new tactic. Sadly it was horrible for their third party sales in a traditional sense.

2. They were front loaded. It sold well from 2006 to 2010. 2011-12 were when it started dropping off the face of the earth. Once the Kinect came everyone found their next fad in 2010. People and their mothers were trying to get their hands on Kinects after 2010 just like they did with the Wii, but it was short lived.

2.

I also doubt the PS4 will ever do that number in a single year. I wonder how big was PS2's peak year, maybe 20million?
