Forums - Sony - Watch Dogs PS4 crosses 2 million before any version reaches 1M. (VGC numbers)

To me it only shows that companies hurt their sales if they agree to exclusive marketing deals. I don't think that PS4 sales would be lower if they would also mention other console in the ads but Xbox and maybe PC sales would be higher. Well, PC sales died pretty quick and player count on Steam looks horrible for the game, seems like they didn't do themselves a favour with their "famous" PC release.

If some average Joe doesn't even know about this game on his console or if he doesn't think that it's a "must" to have this game because he didn't see advertisement for it on his console 50x in a row, he won't buy the game. That's how "average gamers" think.

Telling owners on other consoles or PC that they get a version with less content for the same price does also not really sound convincing as owner of these systems to be honest.

I think just shows just how powerful the PS4 is, i am honestly quiet surprised by this, these sales figures will be looked at by third parties. PS4 is shaping up to be the go to console for gamers and devs.

Since most of the people that I know who own it aren't overly impressed by the game, it's most likely because PS4 owners are starved for games right now....

Stop hating and start playing.

The sales numbers represent the PS4 fanbases hunger for AAA content. Everyone talks up the indie games like they are gold til the real deal is available. Just think, this fall when some more AAA games come out on the PS4, they will sell really well too.

AAA games sell systems.  Indies fill the gaps between them and keep you entertained once you already have it.  Also I haven't bought a single indie on PS4 mainly because when there's a gap I just go back to catch up on my PS3 backlog and now WiiU will help with its pent up exclusives.  At least that's how I treat it.  I'm not buying a PS4 to have indies but if they hand those out on PS+ then I love trying them out and most are entertaining.

Not sure I follow. If there's a lack of AAA content on the PS4, then there must be a lack of AAA content on the X1 as well. That doesn't explain the huge discrepancy. I also think you can have "Gold" Indie titles and your heavy hitters like this. Lest we forget a little Indie game by the name of Minecraft, who's sales dominate most retail/AAA releases.

In any event, with this situation, I'd say it's more along the lines of hype + feedback + open world + exclusive content/marketing. This is in addition to the current "go-to" machine for multiplatform games that is the PS4, hence the gap.

I would say you followed quite well.  You just disagree with my thoughts.  I think that the XB1 has had more AAA games so far.  Will that be true 6-9 months from now?  Probably not, as release schedules will even things out over time and eventually(based on past performance) the PS4 will have a good deal more.

Minecraft is quite a phenomenon.  I will say, it plays a lot like a F2P game.  The creators of it have really made out like bandits.  They too have enjoyed the bonus of coming to the 360 when M$ wasn't releasing any content.  For a lack of something else to play, the game gained quite a bit of noteriety.  Now, they have a strong brand and have it available everywhere.

As far as the gap goes, it makes sense either way with the install base + a general hunger for new games on these next gen systems.

Very bold prediction.  PS4 version will eventually outsell every other version combined.

Bold prediction indeed. At this rate, it could be possible if somehow the game gets bundled with the PS4.

I don't have the PS4 yet, but will get one at some point.  But, I agree with your sentiment.  I use indie games as filler.  I am just gld that M$ started copying $ony with the games with gold program.  I get a chance to catch up on games that i either miseed or never wanted to purchase for whatever reason.

On the subject of "AAA", I ask, what is the tally between the two for high budget games?

You see, you were following just fine.  That was your real point in your first post, you just didn't come out and say it.

We have had this "conversation" before about what a AAA game is.  So, when you look for a tally, inevitably we would come to different totals.  So let's not bother to turn this thread into some type of debate as to the total # of AAA games for each.

My real point was about peoples want for AAA vs Indie games and how the sales prove that true.  If I remember right, you are in the field and are working on a game of your own.  So, surely your opinion will be strong dependent on whether you fall into "AAA" or  not.

It's actually quite simple - where exactly does the X1 top the PS4 in exclusive "AAA" content? The term is measured by budget (a common misconception amongst forum dwellers), not critical reception. *Side not - in regards to my personal industry work, I really only have a strong opinion about one thing - Indie games are "real" games too.

Ah well, I can agree to disagree, but people should claiming something without context. All I was saying.

nonesense. a game is only real when it has a 20+ million budget.

On the subject of "AAA", I ask, what is the tally between the two for high budget games? I'm talking completely exclusive, so games like Titanfall (and now) Dead Rising 3 don't apply.

From where I'm sitting, things are fairly even -

PS4
Killzone: Shadowfall
inFAMOUS: Second Son
Knack

Xbox One
Forza Motorsport 5
Ryse: Son of Rome
Killer Instinct

Both systems look a little light on the AAA exclusive side of things, hence why I don't get those comments about "starved" PS4 fans.

See, you type faster than me, and I am at work.

But, not including Titanfall and DR3 and PVZ seems kind of convenient.  Sure, DR3 and Titanfall  are  exclusive, but they were exclusive to the M$ universe.  PVZ being available to the PS4 now kind of matches my point about how time evens things out...

It is near the end of the end....

Hooray for Watch_Dogs.....*slow clap*
