Forums - Sony - Sony to Continue First and Third-Party PS3 Support as Long as “There is a Good Business”

PS Vita gets new games every week. I don't know what you are talking about...Maybe it isn't the triple A games you would expect for a handheld with such harmony of specs, but it gets lots of indies, japanese titles and the occasional good western game. Moto GP14, One Piece Unlimited, Vita Pets or Borderlands 2, just to mention a few very recent titles.

Healthy support involves a decent number of games coming out at retail each month.  I know about games coming for the platform because I am an enthusiast.  The public at large will not dedicate that time and energy which is why having a retail presence is a huge component in having healthy support for the console.

They already have 90% of their resources focused on the PS4. 3rd parties will continue to support it for a year or two, but Sony is already moving on. They've almost completely abandoned the Vita, and the number of 1st party games coming to the PS3 between now and when it's discontinued will be countable on one hand.

The cost of developing has risen too much. The days of Sony strongly supporting their consoles for 10+ years is long gone.

It isn't any different from the other consoles. PS2 got their last AAA 1st party with GoW 2, while PS3 got TLOU, GT6 and LBP3. After PS3 launch, PS2 support from everyone took a big hit and all it got was mainly Wii ports (mostly terrible games), yearly sports games and the always "late to the party" Persona and other JRPGs.

Even Vita has more 1st party titles announced than PS3, even counting Last Guardian (that probably will still be on PS3) that's a game that shouldn't release that late. You can count that next year PS3 probably won't get any 1st party title in 2015 and very few 3rd party games since companies have to move on to the next gen and forgot what they left behind.

And honestly, new 1st and 3rd party games don't mean nothing to PS3. Most games launching now on both gen are just getting good numbers with PS4 and X1 and games launching only on PS360 are being nuclear bombs. That's because the early adopters are sick of the old consoles and already bought a new one or are planning to do it soon and don't care about the old consoles anymore. Late adopters are the ones that have a PS3 (or will buy one) and are caring about it. But these people is looking forward to all games they didn't played and will grab old CoDs, God of War 3, GT and so on.

Late adopters are a tricky public because all new games will actually be in direct competition with the entire library. It's not like trying to sell a game to me (early adopter), because I already have all the older games I wanted so I have less games to buy. Right now, selling to the late adopter it's direct competition with their list of pending games that will have some of the best games of the gen. Harsh competition.

So 10 years is not enough for you?   Jesus man, shit or get off the pot. If you want more then 10 years support, you're in the wrong area of entertainment.

I think no area of entertainment would have 10 years of support for anything. Sony usually support their home consoles and handhelds for long. It was always Ninty that killed everything they launched with fire and even managed to slap a sucessor to GBA in 3 years to make every GBA owner feel special.

Yeah the first-party games that will keep coming to the PS3 will be MLB: The Show. Japanese publishers still love the PS3 a lot.

But I consider that to be a good thing as a PS4 owner (I still have my PS3 though).

I saw what you did there.

first party?

will die fast
faster than xbox360

why schould any1 buy ps3 if u can get a ps4 for just some bucks more.
ps3 is in real trouble

That is the correct approach and it should be the norm.

Nintendo could learn from this. Especially considerint that this is what they used to do back inte console gaming golden age (NES, SNES).

I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't feel my PS3 is getting the great 1st party support fans have boasted about since the PS4 released.

3rd parties are doing the heavy lifting.

MLB the show? LBP3? They had a ridiculous amount last year. What more do you expect?

2013 for PS3 1st party was a solid year. I played several of the noteworthy games that year.

2014 seems to be... another baseball and another LBP.

This is basically what I expected. But I hoped for more noteworthy and core experiences from Sony... the king of supporting a platform after launching a new platform.

Even some ports of 1st party Vita games would be nice.

Anyone buying a 7th gen console now might be interested in its library?

I bought a PS3 in 2011 so I could play noteworthy games I missed.
