Will Any Genre King From Last Gen be Dethroned This Gen? Aka... COD/Mario/Super Smash/etc!

 

When i mean king i mean overall in each genre! This is a mix of sales + popularity throughout the entire generation. Also you dont need to count if 1 game of a franchise had low sales. Ex: COD for Vita as most of all COD does extremely well!

Anywayz lets begin! Just copy and write your answer for each genre! Good Luck! Also if you want, you can do a runner up in each!!!!

The only one that has a chance of being overthrown in COD/Battlefield IMO. Everything else probably won't in the near future.

Genres       
 
Action          Gran Theft Auto!
Racing         Gran Turismo or Mario Kart... Hard to tell right now
Shooter       Destiny might just dethone COD
Fighter         Super Smash Bros might easily take this genre again, it killed everything else last gen
RPG           Pokemon wont be dethrone...... For a Long Long Time
Platformer   Mario again? Yeapppppp!

looking at GT6 sales, it seems meh compared to others GTs.
but what can possible dethrone it? forza? project cars? drive club?

thats just 1 game though, GT7 will go back up in sales. But then there is Mario Kart. MK7 Will be over 11mil when its all done selling!

In the RPG category you could easily include TES. Skyrim did over 20 million, thats more then a single Pokemon did last gen.

I agree that The Elder Scrolls should be included, but Pokemon is more impressive. Skrim's across three different platforms. Diamond and Pearl nearly sold 20 million on a single platform. Pokemon also consistently sells well with yearly releases (Since '08 a main series game has droped every year). I doubt The Elder Scrolls series could stay relevant.

The Elder Scrolls deserves to be up there. Pokemon may be king of JRPGs, but TES is king of Western RPGs. Both should be up there. On the other hand, Mortal Kombat does NOT belong up there in fighting, Street Fighter does.

Nothing will dethrone Mario 3D games. Nobody except Nintendo are really making games like that anymore.
