We will see maybe one more gen of consoles then thats that.PC gaming is the strongest it has been in years thanks to the new digital distribution model, consoles are yesterdays news and have peaked in sales. This gen console sales will be less than 2/3 last gens.

Hell no, theres a reason ports to PC are released later because theres too much piracy, consoles always sell more just look at Minecraft on consoles already surpassing sales on PC, Watchdogs selling millions on consoles and thousands on PC.

PS4 and Xbox One are tracking ahead of PS3 and X360 is only Wii U thats lacking way behind the phenomenon called Wii.

VGChartz doesn't even track PC digital sales correct? So it's worthless for PC tracking. Most PC sales are done digitally these days.

Yea about when they are 70% off on Steam, sales on consoles are bigger just look at Minecraft and how some games are released later to avoid piracy.

Pretty generalised statement there.Console sales are bigger. So Diablo 3 sold more on PS3 than PC? Individually mine raft sold the most on PC but yes, if you add up all console platform sales yes together they are more.

The reason Diablo 3 sold more on PC is because is a year late port of a franchise rooted on PC.

"Individually mine raft sold the most on PC but yes, if you add up all console platform sales yes together they are more."

So you give me the reason then, it doesn't matter if is across all platforms since there will always be more PCs than consoles.

I dunno, some people......about 200 million gamers actually, like the idea of a corporate overlord dictating your every move.

Corporations = successful and capable.

PC user = One person in charge of their own gaming experience.

Corporation >>>>>> one person.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

consoles have become pointless, since they're using the same architecture as a pc, and they're basically all about software updates and downloads nowadays, I don't see what's the point of them anymore, they Have become a poor man's pc,

You can argue they're cheaper but so are PCS, you can get a better pc for the same price and upgrade it from there, and that will last you till your motherboard explodes (forever), you get cheaper games, more functionality, more room for tweaking and more ways to play, also free online and unrestricted services.

Look I'm not saying this as a pc gamer I'm saying this as a fellow gamer, handhelds have buttons over phones, consoles have nothing over PCS so what's the point of them nowadays? In the old days it made a lot more sense, consoles were meant to be "plug in and play" experience as in you buy a game from the store and you stick it on the console and play, now you buy it off the store and install it, and then download the patch and hope everything works fine, what difference is there from a PC? I would love to hear what you think the difference is.

Now developers are always talking about graphics and how much 1080p 60 fps their game is, it's like you bought a console so you can argue about specs on the Internet instead of playing it,  and then comes ps5 with PS4 games with updated graphics "how it's meant to be played" crap by developers,  and the sad thing people always get sucked into that pr bullshit, I could argue for a long time but tell me, whats so different about a PS4 and a PC?

I don't have the time or desire to learn how to upgrade a PC. I'm clueless how to move anything inside the PC. I just want something that will allow me to browse Facebook, the internet, play stupidly addictive flash games, and random other crap. I bought a nice HP Ultrabook with Beats audio for $500. I probably will keep this laptop for at least 5 years. I later bought Alan Wake on sale through Steam. It would not run on my laptop. Your argument has failed the average customer like myself.

Is that so?

Also on your earlier point PCs have jumpstarted indie development, but since PCs aren't dedicated devices, without consoles their would be less of a focus on Gaming overall.

Enlightening link. It seems Minecraft has sold more on mobile than on PC and console combined.

An outlier, for sure, but also a sign of how the wind is blowing.

reread.

Its sold more on console+mobile than PC.  Which should not shock anyone, though it did take a long time for it to finally happen.

"Consoles have become pointless, since they're using the same architecture as a pc [...]". Since when were console's big selling point the architecture anyway? I would say never and only few even know the architectures of consoles and PCs - so it really doesn't matter. And even though I know the hardware facts, it surely does not stop me from playing on a console - I mean why should it?

What consoles have over a PC, you ask?! It's much more comfortable! Of course, there are also updates, but on consoles, at least on the PS4, everything works so fast, intuitive, easy and automatic. So, I don't have to do anything prior to play a game. Well. maybe except for waiting a little bit - and this waiting time can be completely shut down by activating the console's auto-download feature during stand-by, so that you are always ready to go and don't waste time. And even if you don't activate that feature, you can do whatever you want during the update process - watching movies, playing games etc., since everything happens in the background. And here again: not so on PC.

Furthermore, there are far less problems on the consoles with the games. For me, it is actually "Plug & Play".
While on PC, people often have to deal with several problems like a game is not running properly despite having a high-end PC. While it doesn't happen with every game, of course, it is also not that seldom.

Some of the cons of PC gaming in comparison to console gaming:
- updating games manually and in the foreground - meanwhile gaming is not (really) possible
- installing games take quite a lot of time
- updating drivers of hardware like graphics card, CPU
- for quite a few users some games are sometimes not playable at launch, so they have to wait days or even weeks and months(!) until the game developer and/or graphics card manufacturer provides an update resp. driver
- dealing with problems despite high-end hardware and spending much time searching for workarounds and maybe not finding none
- searching for the optimal graphics settings
- managing background processes, searching for a "game killer" process

That's just a few problems coupled with PC gaming, which can often take way too much time as I personally also play on PC and experienced them not too seldom. Also note: Many of those problems would be not resolvable for a gamer who is not that into tech.

My main problem with console, is that I think games are overpriced compared to Steam PC games.

Digital prices on psn is a joke.

Are you really going to try and claim consoles don't have issues with new games, hardware or internet connections?! Because I think the entire last gen of consoles would like to have a word with you. RROD, Blue light of death, Activision... EA Games.
Just some of the problems a lot of console gamers have experienced and keep experiencing.

A simple google with PS3/360 issues will you give a shitload of problems to choose from. And none of them are seldom.

So while I do agree with PC's requiring more time and effort with installations and such I definitely do not agree that consoles are a lot more trouble free.

That used to be the case when consoles were just that, consoles. Now though they're basically budget PC's. And although they work off a closed OS and run games tailored for their hardware they do run into trouble.

Mobile Sales > Console Sales > PC Sales

obviously this means Mobile + Console > PC

Minecraft has been on PC the longest, while in the article it says the X360 version which was the first console version debutted ~18 months ago. Not a long time compared to its time on PC.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

I stopped reading at "poor man's pc."You should take into consideration that most people don't have the money to buy high end PCs.I prefer consoles any day over PC.Why spend all that money buying $2000+ PC when I can get a console and a bunch of games for less?
