It's great to see someone so passionate about what they are working on. Sean Murray clearly regresses to childhood like joy and wonderment even just discussing the game. I hope that energy makes it way into the game. It looks great. Outside of a few more particle effects to really drive home that atmosphere entry and exit I couldn't ask for anything more.
I love the premise of the game but it still has yet to show me this danger they keep going on about. If space dogfights are the only element of that I will be pretty disappointed.

While I marvel at the size and scope of the game, especially considering the small ten-person team at Hello Games, it's hard for me to get too excited for No Man's Sky. As a sandbox and a social experiment, the game looks very interesting. But, in terms of gameplay, it doesn't look especially challenging or rewarding. Yes, I'm impressed by the procedurally generated worlds, but the thing that makes a great game is its set of challenges and the ways in which players accomplish those challenges. Apart from a rampaging beast and a few enemy ships, I didn't see many challenges.
This video, however, made me a little more optimistic. Knowing that players can upgrade ships, work cooperatively with other players, and strive toward an ultimate goal -- in this case the center of the galaxy -- puts my mind at ease. I'm still not sold on the game, but it's a step in the right direction.
In any event, I hope the studio finds success. This is clearly a labor of love.
I am really interested in this game. The idea that I can explore a world, manage my ship and all that sounds awesome. I'm really looking forward to many Space games that are coming out, not just Sci-Fi but space. So Eve Valkyrie too, even Drifter.
But I have a worry, they said it's not really a multiplayer game, not really anyway, in an interview I read somewhere but they said you could meet another player. But my worry is because of that it means it's online MP and therefore requires PS+ which I don't want to have to pay for, especially when my main gaming habits on the console will mainly be single player games and RPGs.
Does anyone know if this might be the case?
Hmm, pie.
Can't wait for this game. Game of the year right here folks
This game is severely overrated. No way in hell is it going to live up to the hype.
I love the look of this game, but I'm worried it's going to have no story what-so-ever and you'll just be exploring randomly generated planets for no reason.. I can't spend my money on a game that offers me absolutely no sense of accomplishment.

I am, however, trying not to get too excited about it. They talk about how every planet will be unique, which I assume means that the planets are randomly generated. But with such a small development team, I have to wonder how many templates they will have for generating these random planets. For example, what if there are only three templates (ice planets, rocky planets, and garden planets)? Even though each planet is randomly generated from one of these templates, exploration of other planets would start to boring pretty quickly. Same goes for the flora and fauna. |
I tried to curb my expectations and be rational about this.
I failed.

The thing is, everything in this game is procedurally generated which basically means that they have algorithms with certain parameters in place that acts as a base for the game. The game itself then renders a planet with these algorithms and it is extremely unlikely that any planet will look the same, at least any two planets that you will visit during all the time you spend in the game. The system can combine any of the parameters and create extremly unique flora and fauna so I wouldn't worry about getting bored of exploration :P
