Forums - Gaming - Crytek's Ryse 2 canned as financial struggle spreads to Shanghai

Sony hasnt revealed most of their games in development. Even a lowered amount of games is still more IP's than the competition. Wouldnt you want a company to push back games for the sake of quality rather than rushing it out? ::Coughs::Ryse::Cough:: MS was desperate to get it out for launch. They were sick of waiting and look what happened. They got an average scoring game. I am not making excuses for Knack either. That game was no system seller itself.

Every last year launched game was either rushed developed or rushed ported to next gen.

Or do you think Killzone SF was a well polished game?

Sony rushed or delayed their games.

Microsoft strategy was just different from Sony´s, as they didn´t have Fable, Gears or a Halo game in the pipeline.

Crytek wouldn't have had any issue if they worked with Sony imo

At the beginning of last gen 500k copies or less wasnt enough to warrant the success of a AAA game. At the end of last gen a million in sales was and still is too little to secure the success of a AAA game. AAA games are and have been the downfall of numerous companies. THQ was the first major company to fall to this. MS has no creativity and they are dependent on whatever IP's they can get. If they make a Ryse 2 that shows they are truly desperate to match Sonys expected development numbers.

Which Sony themselves said will be lower this gen.

And seeing Sony´s 2013/2014 line up for the PS4 I think that every one would agree.

2015 isn't looking great either.

Based on Sony being so dependent on 3rd parties during their E3 show.

Do you even read the things you write?

Sony's lineup for 2015

The Order 1886

Bloodborne

Uncharted 4

Shadow of the Beast

MLB 15

Microsoft:

Halo 5

Scalebound

Quantum Break

Not counting digital titles (where Sony absolutely destroys MS), Microsoft does not have any sort of advantage in their 2015 lineup. And did you even watch Microsoft's E3 conference? 90% of it was 3rd party games. It's pretty clear who's dependent on multiplats.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Metacritic is part of the argument because it is an aggregate. It backs up my point that the based on an aggregate of respected gaming opinions Ryse was just above average. Literally. Too Human was considered slowly higher on an aggregate. The user aggregate was 5.9 which means the fans were more or less aligned with media reviews. This is also the same reason MS barred media from showing reviews of Ryse, because they KNEW IT SUCKED. Everyone in the media was talking about how fishy it was for MS to be barring reviewers from releasing their reviews for ryse. It was to stop people from stopping their preorders in time because reviews affect public opinion.

Ryse sold well because it was a launch title.

My worthless opinion? At least I had the class to bill something as your opinion and leave it at that. How you feel about a game is how you feel about it.

Yeah, Metacritic is still useless for this discussion. Sales has more impact on continuing an IP than Metacritic.

I agree, Ryse being a launch title helped make it a success. But that's isn't the sole reason it did well. Look at Knack, that was a launch title available to a bigger audience. Yet Ryse sold better than Knack (excluding Japanese bundle of Knack).

Hah! "I had the class." If you had class you wouldn't do so much MS bashing. You just annoy people with that crap, that isn't class.

Metacritic is not useless to the discussion because it is an aggregate as I said before. If Microsoft believed review scores were useless they wouldn't have barred reviews until the release date of Ryse instead of letting them come in a week earlier. They know review scores affect sales which is why these days people have been accusing companies of paying off reviewers (namely IGN). Sales impact the continuing of an IP, but reviews and aggregates tell the opinions of the people who played the games and Ryse was a slightly average game based on user aggregate and media aggregate. Its better that first party fails than paying a third party to make crap for you. Just shows how much Microsoft pays attention to the track records of the companies they pay.

In your situation between you and me I respected your opinion. I don't care about what you think of between me and a group of people. Thats a pretty sad way to think.

In a surprise twist, it turns out that both Microsoft and Crytek are fighting to make the other company take the rights to Ryse.

Seriously, though, they both probably think that a sequel could do well if started from the ground up as a regular game instead of as a Kinect game. I'm guessing that Microsoft isn't willing to gamble on funding another game, however, without something substantial in return, like the rights to the IP.

Sony made more new IP's than any of their competition last gen. Rehashing what? You're grasping at straws, sir. THQ went down because they werent getting proper returns for their investment and many companies will fall this gen by the same token if they dont start to lower their AAA development numbers. Its just becoming too much of a risk.

Sony had to make new IPs. They needed a Halo killer. In my opinion, Sony came out of PS2 with no noteworthy core IPs.

When I say rehashing, I mean constantly using old IPs. Did we really need another Sly Cooper? Do we need another Shadow of the Beast? Not really, but I'm fine with Sony making them.

THQ made some bad investments like a cancelled MMO and those tablets. Also, they invested in too many mediocre games.

Frankly, I'm astonished that anybody wanted to play Ryse 2 let alone develop or own the rights to it. What a uniformly mediocre game unworthy of the time to play it. It's a pity about Crytek though, they used to be a great studio. I still hope that they can complete Homefront: Revolution because it honestly looks like a promising title despite the pedigree of its predecessor and Crytek's recent... difficulties. That being said, it seems that Microsoft is intent on investing as little money as possible in founding new studios or creating new games which is a pity because they certainly have the resources to accomplish anything with the right vision and leadership.

1 - What would you say about Infamous SS vs Dead Rising? Especialy when the agregated score have zeros like these:

"Killing zombies is fun, as always.
+ There are A LOT of different weapons.

- DR3 doesn't feel next-gen, because graphics don't look cool
and the game runs at 30fps.
- Frame rate drops (the game went down to 14fps once)
- After a few hours you will get bored, killing zombies randomly without a reason is not fun"

2 - Why any alternative would be better. In any case the companie would have to lay off staff and reorganise its assets. Are you aware of what happened with Rare and Kinect Sport Rivals?

hahahaha    That's the best line I have heard all day. Not only does Sony have a great line up coming in 2015 but also MS relied on just as many 3rd parties at their E3 Show such as AC, CoD and Witcher 3 to name a few. Not to mention they pulled a page from Sony's book in showing indie games. Maybe next year MS will actually show gameplay though rather then CGI trailers.

You forgot Crackdown from the MS list (i think that's 2015?) and R&C Redux from Sony's, but your point does stand. What he said was pretty short sighted.

Even if Sony don't announced a single new 2015 titles at TGS, GC and E32015, they've already confirmed enough titles to match the quantity of both the PS4's launch and 2014 combined.
