Forums - Gaming - Does it matter if an exclusive is 1st party or not?

Obviously, there have been many, many, many, many threads discussing a particular 1st party studio or the number of 1st party exclusive games for one console or another.  To me, it just doesn't matter what studio makes a game.  So why does it matter if a title becomes exclusive to one console or another if it's made by a 3rd party studio?  It seems that if a game is console exclusive but is not 1st party, a majority of the posters here go CRAZY.  Of course, Microsoft is the most common console maker to do so.  But just watching Sony buy up the Destiny DLC and advertising is just about the same to me.  It almost seems as though Sony was worried that Titanfall may actually be a monster hit and thought they needed to regain their cred or something.  Seeing as how these deals happened 12-18 months ago, they may only seem that way now.  We know now that Titanfall was a good seller, but not what many people thought it would be.  Soon enough, we will find out whether Destiny really matters too.

Point is, if a console maker wants to buy an ip and make it exclusive, why does it matter?  Are people really mad because they bet on the wrong horse for getting that one particular game?  Are they mad because they didn't get the special armor or vehicle that was exclusive to a particulart console?  Are they mad because they can't get the game they want as a pack in deal for their system of choice?

The reality is that if you want access to all of the games, you have to buy all of the consoles.  If you can't do that for whatever reason, people need to just accept what is available on the system they do have and not worry about what they don't have.

It is near the end of the end....

No, it doesn't matter. An exclusive s an exclusive, whether it's made by 1st or 3rd party.

Exactly. This is a war, not a tea party. Sharing is not caring.

If you think a tea party is not like a war, you haven't been to many.

it depends. 3rd party exclusives are fine and all, but most would never be able to maximize/tap a console's potential power like a 1st party studio can. case in point.. Naughty Dogs. give me a 3rd party studio that could do what they did with the ps3 with uncharted and TLOUin graphics fidelity while mainting a good game and what they'll achieve on the ps4 by the time gen8 consoles end..  no disrespect to 3rd party devs, but there is an advantage to working on only one console, and the IPs will prove it.

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..

Not really especially when the console maker publishes like Bayonetta or Bloodborne

and that pretty much ends this thread.

I'll add though, having exclusive DLC of anykind be it timed or permanent doesn't mean that the "game" is exclusive. Exclusive DLC only really affects people that have multiple consoles. I doubt anyone wanting to buy an XB1 for halo will get a PS4 instead because destiny on the PS4 has exclusive DLC.

From a business standpoint, no. But a game is better if comes from in house. Look how many of MS's exclusives went multiplat. I'm pretty sure PS4 will be getting Sunset Overdrive 2 if they plan on making it that is.
