I haven't played Skyward so I don't know about it.

If you are a true old school Zelda fan you will hate SS or find very very many flaws in it.

but if you got into zelda 2006-now then you will like it.

the sky is like WW's sea but even emptier.

open world in Zelda are always a bit empty... and yes I agree; the Sky was empty but it is a good game still.

I have been a Zelda fan sicne day one and I still love the variation of the games....

I am glad to hear that Zelda U is going to be a very huge game just like the original Zelda game! Don't let us down, Aonuma!

Part of what I loved about Twilight Princess was exactly the thing a lot of people here didn't seem to like, which were the big fields of emptieness. I thought those were very atmospheric, especially at night because of the awesome music.

But I also found the density of Skyward Sword great, so I hope the new Zelda will combine both. I want to have lots of opportunities for stuff to do if I feel like it, but also a lot of space to just ride around for no good reason :)

How about we use a game to compare a game mmkay, Aonuma?

Skyrim map is 40 square kilometers. Kyoto is 830 square kilometers. Yup, you got it.

It won't be of that size however, 800 km2... for Nintendo's debut in open-world games? Nope.

Given that math, going with Zelda Wii U being 9-13 square kilometers.

While the idea of having little things in every part of the world is ideal, this too is (almost) just as neat, imo.  Having  areas be accesible "just because" adds life to the game.  You're not going to find something everywhere.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Here's me hoping Kyoto will end up as the next SI unit.

That's... Pretty huge.
(That's what she said XP)
How big is Xenoblafe compared to this?

Xenoblade is bigger than Skyrim and Xenoblade X is bigger than Xenoblade. So lets say smaller than Xenoblade X but still huge

I am a bit scared that it will be filled with nothing, hopefully it will be densed with content

Twice the size of Just Cause 2? Yeah, I doubt that.

EDIT: Here are some maps of big open-world games:

TES games:

Of course, when properly done and tightly packed, you really don't need astronomical maps for the world to feel really big (ufortunatelly only folks who played these will understand what I'm talking about):

Gothic 1

Gothic 2

Gothic 3

I really don't mind emptiness at all.  I think it just adds to one's image of the world.  Yes, i agree it would be boring and lengthy, but as long as I only cross it once, it's cool.  As long they work in some sort of warp mechanic in the game, I'm peachy about it.

Yeeeaaaah, i'm going to call bullshit on that one :p That or he was miss understood.

Kyoto is 828km2. For reference, Skyrim was 25km2 (not the biggest, but you get the idea). It would have to be pretty damn barren of... anything. They could call it "Zelda: The Void"
