How about we use a game to compare a game mmkay, Aonuma?

Skyrim map is 40 square kilometers. Kyoto is 830 square kilometers. Yup, you got it.

It won't be of that size however, 800 km2... for Nintendo's debut in open-world games? Nope.

Given that math, going with Zelda Wii U being 9-13 square kilometers.

Part of what I loved about Twilight Princess was exactly the thing a lot of people here didn't seem to like, which were the big fields of emptieness. I thought those were very atmospheric, especially at night because of the awesome music.

While the idea of having little things in every part of the world is ideal, this too is (almost) just as neat, imo.  Having  areas be accesible "just because" adds life to the game.  You're not going to find something everywhere.
