Forums - Nintendo - Amiibos up for preorder!? (£12.85)

I still dont know why the hell I would even want or need one of these things. The way I understand it, it is so you can take your wii u's smash data (for one specific character) to a friends house or something? So they are bulky, very expensive memory cards? Also, do you have to have the thing on the gamepad while you are playing? Seems awkward... What if your friend at said house has an amiibo too? Only one of you can use them because there is only one gamepad?

Needless to say, the amiibo did not give enough information on them... Terrible reveal...

Do you kno how this is being used? You still get to have the full Smash experience, they dont take anything away.

Actually, you evidently just weren't paying attention, since all of your questions were answered. Multiple times over.

You do not have to leave your Amiibo on the GamePad. Once you scan it, its data is stored for the duration of the session. Multiple Amiibo were shown fighting in a single match.

Amiibo don't just store custom movesets. They are custom AI. Like Forza's "Drivatars" with some RPG mechanics. Your Amiibo will level up and develop a personal fighting style and stuff (so two Amiibo of the same character at the same level with the same custom moves equipped won't be identical fighters).

I don't think Amiibo was meant to target "hardcore gamers" (or the more serious and informed gamers).  I think it was meant to target some of the casual players, and the reveal of them probably got them more excited.  Seeing how it is implemented in Smash Bros only reinforces that idea in my opinion.

How are they disk locked? You are just leveling up your character if you choose to purchase any of them, they can't be used online so no one is getting and edge over anyone, they won't be used to unlock anything so nothing is locked and its all local so if ur friends bring amiibo over and u don't want to use it... Well don't since it requires the gamepad to work and you can always punch him in the face if hes being a tool... And there is no actual content locked away in the figures apart from the optional levels of the characters that you can't even control... So I don't see how they are even close to being disk locked... If anything, they are useless apart from the people that just want the figures for leveling up or if your like me and want to make them kiss each other erm I mean, to collect all of them

I seriously don't understand how anyone who isn't a child or a collector could be excited about these.

This is much worse than Microtransactions. I was worried when Skylanders was selling great, but now Nintendo is following suit too. Let's hope Sony and Microsoft stay far away from these kind of practises.

I'm pretty sure you didn't watch the video that explains what Amiibos are for...

Nintendo isn't blocking any content from Smash Bros. nor is it adding anything significant to the core gameplay. Without buying any Amiibos you will have access to all characters, modes and pretty much everything from the beginning.

These are basically toys, something extra to do when you are playing with a friend, nothing more, nothing less.

Uh not only did i watch it, i followed the entire digital event at E3. I'm just not agreeing with us. It sets off a dangerous precedent. Once this proves succesful, next time the character will just be unplayable without the right toy.

You are working on an assumption here.

What makes you so sure Nintendo will do that? If there are extra characters, Nintendo will add them as a normal DLC, they have done it in the past with games like Fire Emblem.
