just make the family sharing for digital games. its really that simple and people wont be upset about it. it gives people more choices and there is nothing wrong with that.

I think they are frightened of some kind of bullshit backlash, which we all know someone gaf would be able to dream up in seconds.

But I 100% agree with you.

I want the benefits of this which is why I am prepared to go digital only.  It would prove to be a huge win imo.   If they have problems with it for physical then they can wait, get it up and running now for Digital please Phil.

every policy change will always have some sort of backlash, sometimes mostly from the opposing fanbase. however, this wont, because it will be presented as extra features for digital purchases. it isnt a policy change as much as its a feature update.

if its adding no extra cost, and giving more features and sharing options to digital owners, it will be welcome with open arms, if the feature is as good as its promisng to be, there will be no backlash, it will actually be a selling point, one that other platform holders and digital stores such as PSN and Steam will be pressured to copy, which IMO is a good thing.

They never outlined how this would work to begin with, so im sceptical this will ever be what people are hoping it will. 3rd party publishers aren't going to agree to have unlimited lending of games to anyone on your friends list.

Gamers will have hundreds of online friends, no where near the same as real life friends that can borrow a disk.

For example steam is limited to 5 friends, and any game that requires a 3rd party key wont work, so im guessing that rules out all UPlay games.

When Family Sharing was first mentioned MS never game specific details.  This allowed people to assume it was unlimited lending to everyone on your friends list, as many times as you liked for all games.  Microsoft said nothing to contradict these rumors, since they were scrapping the idea anyway.

People are bound to complain because there WILL be limits placed on what games can be shared, how many times, and for how long.  Ulitmately, this is a way for publishers to eliminate trade-ins and resales where they get no money from the transaction, so they do have a large incentive to work with MS on this feature and encourage people to just buy digital.

Make it digital only.

Solved.

Then those that argue for physical, physical, physical can follow the model, as demonstrated, of handing the disc over in person. The rest of us with digital content can move into the 21st century.

I don't see why it cant be digital only. Indeed, it should be digital only to force the issue. Yeah... I said it.

Agreed. From the start, I decided to go all digital this generation, and for those stuck with bying physical copies, well they can blame themselves for not evolving. MS must push the digital alternative, but in a smoother way than last year :).

No they actually said it could be up to 10 friends who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days. As of other details they didn't go too deep into it because they changed the policy. So there was no point in talking about something that they were taking away.

Friend is not the same as family.  Since when has anyone mentioned the word friends or friends list?

Clearly if the defnition is "family" it will be limited to a number... probably 4 or 5.

and once again... you like physical and want to share, thats fine... "this isnt for you" should be the answer.

Yeah i expect it will be five like steam which is cool, but i also expect like steam most big publishers games wont work, so no Ubisoft games as they require uplay accounts, no EA games as they require Origin accounts, even GFWL games cant be shared on steam.

So as i say this is not going to work like people are imagining it will.

Dead Rising 3 on high street is £25 or so, on the Xbox Live store it's £50. Titanfall is £55 on live, high street is £20. Competative prices don't exist on their monopolied Xbox Store and therefore it's a ripoff to buy digital. They sort this out then maybe many of us will evolve.

Hmm, pie.

well, they clearly have a plan to make it work, so we shall see.

Well heres hoping so, if they can sweet talk ubisoft and EA, maybe that will help out steams family sharing as well.

Go digital. It won't have a backlash. Ms are just going about it wrong. Physical already has lending and people were upset over the fact DRM was about to limit that. Now, you got rid of DRM so physical is taken care of. Just make it digital. Also, I'm glad they are still implementing it instead of the "oh the features you guys will miss with this update. I won't tell you how it would work but it was awesome. No, we can't do it anymore now. Your loss" bullshit they did at first.

Since they have been lollygagging around with this feature sony has already announced a similar feature and one upped them already. Even though it's one game right now there is no reason to expect it not to follow in others. Especially if successful

Well, obviously.  This is part of the issue.  Then again, if I can share a game with 10 friends and they can share with me.... it doesn't sound so bad does it.

But right now you cant so its awful,

PSN is just as bad, i would love to go digital but its publishers that are stopping me.
