I expected someone different . . .

Who?

I'm not really sure exactly.

It just seeemed out of character for deskpro2k3.

I would have expected someone who frequently discredits Nintendo to post this.

I personally was expecting Zod since he's made a thread similar to this before.

Now i don't really agree with you outside of the point on repeat iterations getting a little out of hand like the recently announced remakes for pokemon sapphire or how each generation basically has 3 iterations that are basically the same game with slight changes or mario donkey Kong etc basically being the same after 20 years etc

But regardless I congratulate you on the size of your balls

Wow Carl, that is pretty weak. Look, there is many Final Fantasy games, but you don't see Cloud, or Terra for example in every Final Fantasy title, you understand? Anyways, I thought everyone knew that I don't like the FF13 series.

That doesnt really matter because Final Fantasy games generally have the same gameplay philosophy much like Mario games, Pokémon games, Zelda games and so on. Unless of course, your only real complaint is that you dont like the character design of Mario/ Luigi, Zelda/ Link, Pikachu/ Whatever.

You dont see Mario in every Nintendo title. You don't see Link in every Nintendo title. You don't see Kirby in every Nintendo title. You don't see Pikachu in every Nintendo title. You will see them in games that require them. Mario Kart has always been a "get together" of popular Nintendo characters, so naturally it will feature characters from across a number of different games and genres. Same goes for Smash Bros.

The main thing you need to look at here is that Nintendo don't spam these games out. You get one Mario Kart per gen, per-platform. You get one Smash Bros. per gen (shifting to per-platform).

Now that I have your attention, look at this what you said -

5. Zelda, Pokemon, and Mario is over rated. They need to retire already.

I don't hate Nintendo, I just don't like all the coping, and over rated games they keep printing. Those games show me nothing that compels me to buy it. Its like once I've played one, I've played them all, just like the CoD franchise, and I'm done with that series too.

How on Earth can you call them over-rated?

They review well with critics, they sell extremely well over and over again and they continue to be key IP for Nintendo. What is over rated about them, if they continue to sell Millions and Millions with each passing release while constantly picking up high scoring reviews and awards?

This links back to the whole Final Fantasy thing. What makes Final Fantasy different to Zelda, Pokémon or Mario other than the point that Final Fantasy sometimes introducing a new cast of characters?

you know what I'm sick of? Realistic game after realistic game that is only good with one playthrough and is boring the next, and ages terribly. you know what else? the Last of Us. waaaaaay to focused on cinematic story and graphics, that will eventually look old and dated. I want to play a video game, not a movie.

Nintendo makes Video games, and everyone else makes mostly Realistic based games that look dated after a few years, because of poor artstyle, and is over focused on story rather then gameplay. in other words, interactive movies.

not saying all companies but Nintendo does this, but im mainly looking at Sony here. Nintendo although sometimes is guilty for rehashing the same formula, they know what they are doing, they know how to make VIDEO GAMES.

So after I read the OP and saw your complaints about mediocre games and re-releasing the same titles over and over again, I decided to check out your profile and saw your favourite games. You listed "Final Fantasy" 13 times. Including a game that is yet to actually release (Which you mention twice). You listed games from the Killzone franchise, as well as games like White Knight Chronicles and Star Ocean.

And youre complaining about Nintendo releasing the same, mediocre games over and over again? I find this hilarious.

Not sure how the FF comparison is a good counter to this argument, because there's literally dozens of examples that work.

So you are defending the OP now? I guess I shouldn't be surprised after this:

To think that I idlely sat by to allow others to forget so that I could strike again! Why Rol?!

Of course, my complaint is that there is too many Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and not enough fresh new things like X. X as a matter of my opinion, looks so much better than Mario games.

Its fine if you don't like my criticism, but let me make myself clear. The difference between games like Final Fantasy, against Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon is clear as day for me. The storyline, action, graphics, progression, and characters is all better. The story is what makes Final Fantasy. The best thing is that the characters is always different. (unless its a sequel like the FF13 series). Mario in the other hand, all they do is throw in the same characters and a new plot, and upgrade graphics for the new nintendo console. I can almost guarantee you a new Mario is in the works. spoiler: Princess is going to get kidnapped again.

Its the perfect counter to his argument, when you consider that Square Enix have been releasing Final Fantasy games now for over 25 Years. I mean, look at his OP again -

"I played Mario games since I was 8 years old.  Fast forward 20 years later,  they're still making Mario games."

And yeah a whole lot of Final Fantasy, especially in recent Years, can be considered mediocre.

Granted I could find numerous other things to pick at. I just think the whole hating on Nintendo for releasing successful games over and over again thing is funny, when at the same time the guy quite clearly loves Final Fantasy.

Well, I took the Mario comment to be along the lines of the tradition complaint with using the same characters, same story archetype (or really complete lack of one), with the very few new gameplay mechanics introduced (part of the genre really). Whereas, FF games take place in different worlds, with new combat and progression systems, with new characters, etc. Final Fantasy is a brand rather than Mario which is a series of characters.

Hey Carl, just a reminder. You liked Final Fantasy XIII. Remeber back to the good old days when you saw Light and Hope.

This thread is awesome. There is a reason Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon keep going. They are successful franchises that continue to get great support. Oh, and you like FF eh? That's funny from what you said in your post.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

I was hugely excited for the game before it released and liked it for the first 10 or so hours before I realised what was going on.

I prefer XIII to X at least.

Nintendo makes fresher games with reused franchises than most studios do with new ones.
