I just want to say that I LOVE the gamepad and I love the games that have actually utilized it well (Arkham City: Armored Edition and Lego City Undercover). I also loved the wii mote once it had motion plus (prior to that, it was not good). I'm tired of boring controllers. I want them to keep changing it up. I buy Nintendo because I want something different than the mindless other companies.

Watch it be a Oculus-Rift type headset as a controller.

nice

I think yes,the odd numbered gens always have a change up

Well every 8th gen controller does so why not?

Current consoles: Wii U, Gaming PC

Add me on Wii U! Adamjh99

Add me on Steam! GamingByAdam

Anything Nintendo does is pretty much unavoidably defined as a gimmick, so yes, it will.

"This console supports glasses-free 3D if you want, or you can ignore it." -- omg so gimmicky I don't wanna pay for that

"WE PUT A TOUCHSCREEN ON THE BACK." -- nope no gimmicks here Sony is teh hardcore

"Now there's a screen on the controller so you can play your console games while someone else uses the tv." -- casual gimmicky bullshit way too expensive

"Check this sick touchpad we put in the middle of our controller, and this cool light on the back drains the battery like crazy and can't be turned off." -- greatest controller ever

If Nintendo shifted their button placement by ten degrees it would be labelled a gimmick.

you sound bitter as hell LOL. THe touchscreen on the back of Vita is a poor example come on. It actually adds to gameplay on the portable

My guess would be yes and no. I think it'll be something like we saw in the DS4 where you have a classic, regular controller with a few innovations thrown in. But it'll be a traditional controller first. I think they learned their lesson.

Yes, because all of their consoles so far had one.

Not SNES.

Shoulder buttons.

Extra buttons do not count.

It will have one or several previously unseen features, and they will prove themselves fun and useful to some degree.

Whether youp will want to label them gimmicks is entirely up to you.

Shoulder buttons were not merely extra buttons. It was the whole concept that some buttons should be pressed by your index or middle finger, instead of your thumb. No-one had done it before, and afterwards it became a defacto standard.
