Forums - Gaming - Phil Fish: Youtubers are Theifs.

I think he might be on to something here. I mean why should we stop at games. Why shouldn't clothing manufacturers (though this may not apply to pr0n), and furniture makers and the makers of anything shown within a video be further compensated after the initial purchase of their items when they are shown on video and the wearer/owner gets paid. Of course the video camera manufacturer wouldn't get paid since it is not shown in the video (unless there are multiple cameras, but then the video maker would only be responsible for those actually in the shot) and neither would the sound equipment manufacturer, except when the boom mic falls into view.

This is such nonsense. Video Games are an interactive product meaning the idea is to play them. Streaming your play through of a game you legally purchased is not stealing. It is fair trade. I know a lot of sympathetic gamers love their favorite developers etc. and want to see them get paid but this whole idea that game developers somehow deserve to further reap profits from something they already sold is just silly.

This whole knee jerk reaction from some in the development community to try to double dip into their game sales is just going to back fire on them. Don't support this type of anti-consumer bullshit. Phil Fish is a talented game designer but when it comes to treating his consumer base with respect (gamers) he is a talentless hack.

You are so far away from the truth and the point of the OP.

First, you're confusing manufactured products and intelectual property. They are two different aspects, and even fall into different legal categories.

Secondly, it's not developers that are trying to double dip. It's those youtubers that are dipping into other people's property. Developers are simply trying to either stop them from profiting at all, or let them continue profiting, but oblige them to actually pay the fees they should be paying.

PewDiePie wins 4 Million dollars for doing those shitty youtube videos?... I think I need to change my career... right fucking now.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Wait, wait...Pewdiepie makes 4 million dollars a year on his vids???? Holy SHIT !

How is watching someone else play a game the same as playing the game?

And where were all these developers and publishers 5 years ago when lets players and streamers weren't popular?

This is just plain greed. As others have said a lot of these lets players and streamers are popular because of the value they add, whether that's insight into game mechanics, walk throughs, how to's or simply comedic commentary etc.

The worse thing about all of this is the smaller guys are the ones who are most effected. Its not the pewdiepie's and the activision's that are going to be hit by any change in policy but the millions of smaller content providers and smaller game devs that actually thrive on the free publicity.

To all the people who agree with fish i say you lack perspective and dont truly understand the situation.

People are making as if games and movies are the exact same medium...i dont get that. One you need to play to have the experience the other you need to watch...?

I agree lets players that just play games and do not offer anything of actual value = parasites.

if you create your own content its another story.

Last year he had a simlair rant on Twitter that pissed a lot of people ofd too. I forget the extra reason why he did it.

Hi is right 100%.

Youtubers playing games are breaking a contract. That is the fact.

The fact that this is or not free marketing for the game is not the point. We are talking about a crime.

Can a crime be free marketing for one or both parts? Maybe, but is a crime. Is wrong from the beginning.
