Forums - Nintendo - Why Mario Kart 8 didn't save the WiiU

Well they were just being cautious. They didn't want to ship too many units that might now have got sold.

The reason for limited stock would be atrocious Wii U sales in the past. Retailers don't have much faith in the console anymore, so they ordered stock in limited quantities.

Your opinion that the Wii U could have been saved is the reason why certain people keep piesacking Nintendo fans.

Something tells me you're going to be eating a lot of crow once the gen is over.

Nintendo can sell their own consoles. It's not because NSMBU bombed that the U is doomed.

Was Nintendo able to sell N64 and GC well enough? No console can sell without third-party support especially with such a terrible hardware-price ratio.

Also Nintendo games aren't good and varied enough to sustain Wii U sales.

It is not a matter of whether Mario Kart 8 will save the Wii U it is a matter of whether Mario Kart 8 will help the Wii U hold onto second place. So far the Wii U looks good for second place and it will takes years before the XBox One over takes it. Mario Kart 8 will help boost Wii U sales and Mario Kart 8 will sell 10+ million copies. Wii U's success will be holding onto second place and outselling the XBox One. Both Nintendo and Microsoft are fighting for second place in 8th generation console wars.

Just because it is sold out doesn't mean it is limited, just means your local stores don't have them in stock and are probably gonna get some more soon

Plus you can always order online, I even checked, Gamestop doesn't have any in a store near me, but I found it at Best Buy and Walmart

That's not the case, every retailer I called/visited said they weren't going to be ordering any more stock. I tried EB Games/Gamestop, Walmart, The Source, Best Buy, Future Shop, Target, Game Center and eventually a small chain called Video Games Plus had 1. Most retailers already took it off their website too, actually all of them did. There is no more Mario Kart 8 console listing online in Canada except for eBay.

A quick search that took me a few seconds only, and lo and behold....

...there's plenty of stock available at amazon.ca and walmart.ca.

Nintendo alone sold more first party games on the Wii than the cube and xbox sold games in total. Nintendo can sustain a console alone.

I was talking about hardware.

Besides the Wii was a freak incident. You can't compare it with the Wii U. If Nintendo could sustain the console alone it wouldn't be in such a mess sales wise.

Retailers were conservative in ordering and/or Nintendo was conservative in shipping the bundle (not wanting more pissed off retailers).

To be honest though if you already have a Wiimote+ your house, the NSMBU bundle + Mario Kart 8 separately is the better buy.

You get NSMBU + NSLU + Mario Kart 8 + the extra free game for about $359.99 US vs. $330 for just the Mario Kart 8 bundle.

NSMBU + NSLU for $30 more is a pretty sound deal.

Not everyone wants a 2D game for $30.

Plus with this bundle you get a bonus controller ($40)....so you're really paying $70 more for the NSMBU bundle and personally I think that game is a waste of money.

I did mention if you have a Wiimote already (probably 2) ... which is pretty much every Nintendo fan, then getting another one is kinda redundant.

Yea, but Mario Kart 8 has 4 player GP mode. I have a Wii, but not 4 Wii-motes.

Plus like I said, not every Nintendo fan wants New Super Mario Bros. Wii Sports appealed to pretty much everyone, but NSMBU is really not that special of a game. I held off buying the WiiU specifically because I didn't like the bundles. I don't like to own games which I don't like.

---

I hope this is just a stock issue and that the WiiU is just crazy popular. I hope this fall we see a Mario Kart 8 bundle AND a Wii Sports Club bundle.

Oh.....when I chacked Walmart.ca there wasn't even a listing for Mario Kart 8. Best Buy, Future Shop and EB Games/Gamestop cleared it from inventory, like so (All WiiU consoles available): http://www.ebgames.ca/browse/nintendo-wii-u/systems?nav=131c8-6f

Also the cheapest one on eBay was $450.......I did most of this research through my phone when I was mad searching for a console.

-----

I hope BB and Gamestop restock, they sell a lot more systems then Walmart.

If the Wii is a freak incident, then so is the DS, the 3DS, the GBA, the SNES and the NES.

Nintendo handheld always do well. Their consoles usually don't.

NES and SNE had third-party support too. As soon as that went to PS and later Xbox Nintendo consoles started failing with the exception of the Wii.

For Reggie Wii U sell good now...
