Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Japan's Tweet From Last Week Seems Pretty Embarrassing

I think Destiny will do pretty well in Japan. The subject matter will be more interesting to the Japanese than CoD and they do like their co-op games.

The tweet is mildly embarrassing the PR department probably had no idea about the exclusivity deal.

No, it will do terribly in Japan. Nobody has large amounts of free time to spend with a deep console game. Everyone has moved to handhelds. The sole home console to have any impact is the WiiU, and that only sells the huge franchises. Seriously I feel like nobody follows the charts there but myself and a few others.

Ps3 is on life support despite 10m+ install base.
360 is deader than dead and utterly destroyed the Xbox brand beyond repair.
Ps4 is fundamentally DOA not because it has no desired Japanese games, but because nobody wants it, they're not even playing their ps3s, which have tons of Japanese market titles.
Xb1 is going to be a disaster there beyond all history. I could easily see them selling in the 4 digit range week 1. Japanese consumers like sleek and compact devices, and the massive 1980s VCR style box is going to be a laughingstock. It boggles the mind that they are even bothering.

Won't matter this game will flop in japan no matter what system it is on

Nah, it's just something you can't hype up in your typical bait threads so you'll continue to downplay it.

It will do alright for Japan standards. Bungie has a nice following over there thanks to Halo games. :) Plus Japan is buying more shooters every year. Hell CoD sells over half a million which is way more than most JRPG's over there.

The highest selling Halo is 130k from Halo 3. Also, Destiny is not COD and you know it.

I never said Destiny is CoD. I said Japan is buying more shooters today then it did before. Halo 3 in 2007 sold 130K. That's 130k on a failed console in Japan. Meanwhile shooters like CoD and Battlefield do a lot more then the purposed 50-100k that another poster claimed.

Cod on PS4 has sold 40k. Destiny might sell better on PS3 than COD PS4 but Destiny PS4 wont.

CoD PS4 launched 4 months after the PS3 version which sold over 370k so far. With PS3 tailing off in Japan and PS4 gradually gaining userbase it will likely have some legs. It doesn't have to outsell the PS3 version anyways, but it will still take sales away from that version as people upgrade their systems.

MGS GZ sold 230k on PS3 and 130K on PS4 and that's an hour long demo basically. A new AAA game that is being marketed heavy on PS4 might have a different result. If the West is taking more so to the new gen multi plats like Watch Dogs or Titanfall (meaning X1 over X360) then why can't the East?  In the end our opinions are different I guess. We'll just have to wait a couple months and find out..

Isn't X1 regionfree? So those wanting the game could still import it?

That's what I was thinking also.

Or...here's a crazy idea...buy...a PS4

So you can get the best fps series ever created (halo) AND Destiny on PS4? That's insanely good :P.

No thank you.

On topic, clearly Xbox japan had no idea about the lack of 360/one version which is pretty embarrassing for them but more amusing for everyone else I would say.

A little embarrassing for Microsoft. Find it hard to believe Microsoft weren't aware of this as recently as the 12th.

On one hand it looks like the Activision/Xbox relationship has broken down, but on the other their cash cow CoD is still getting the 'best on Xbox' treatment. Weird.

What Activision Microsoft relationship. They only got together for COD.

Considering it will sell more on PS4, and this may cost a few lost sales overall (attempting to push a few towards a platform with half the install base and whose multiplats are selling poorly). It was likely inked before the XB1 was cast so firmly in the role of 2nd-place (and probably well on the way to doom considering the terrible sales even after $399), and will be the last of its kind.

Both have guns and sci-fi?

Someone screwed up, but it probably wasn't Xb Japan. Xb Japan is not the source of information that it publishes / tweets. They just package / repackage PR info they receive from elsewhere. Unless told otherwise they were right to assume Destiny would be multi in Japan. So either Sony and Acti kept thing under wraps until their official announcement of exclusivity, or MS USA knew but forgot to tell Xb Japan. I think MS must have known it wasn't getting Destiny for Japan. Publishing contracts and royalty fees have to be signed and sealed well ahead of launch date and the total absence of any discussion for Xb one publication and distribution in Japan at this point in time would be a bit of a sign, you'd think.
