Forums - Nintendo - Disc Read Error while playin Mario Kart 8 online... Da heck!? <(o_O<)

If anyone was wondering why I didn't have a tournament last weekend, well, this is why! In addition to the random disconnects and periods of time where I can't get on at all, I'm getting my play sessions further interupted by a disc read error, where the disc drive stops spinning the disc for no reason, freezing the game, and I have to turn off an on the console since home button wont work for who knows why. The most non-sensical part about this is this only happens when I play online, and I don't just mean sitting at the online menu or MKTV, no, the very second after I join a group, this error can and will happen. I mean seriously? That's even worse than starman or triple shell trolling! Usually I can get a decent number of races in before the error, but 30 or so minutes is the max amount of time I have before it happens again, and there's no way to know how long I'll have before any given session, so this has made hosting tournaments impossible for me now, and in general on top of the other online problems it's just really annoying. Dang it Nintendo, just release a patch and fix your crummy online already! D:<

Wow, that sucks. Sounds like your wiiu has a faulty disc drive. Your only option is going to be to send it in for service, I'm afraid. Nintendo consoles are rock solid, but the best of em fail sometimes. It's always a pain though, as it always seems to happen at the worst of times. I hope you get it back quickly.

hmm, that's odd. I get quite a few communication errors but that's it. I downloaded the game though.
Contact Nintendo and I'm sure they will help you sort out the problem quickly.

This only happens when I'm specifically playing online in a race/battle, so I don't think it's the console, atleast I don't see how it would be. I'm gonna try putting my MK8 disc into a friend's Wii U and his in mine and see what happens. That'll confirm whether or not it's the game or the console, as I know my friend isn't having this specific problem. And Nintendo would have to be living under a rock to not already be aware of all these problems!

I never have experienced this problem since I am a genius and downloaded the game digitally.

Sounds like you once visited VGC via the Wii U browser and viewed your own profile. Now the console has an urge to vomit everytime it remembers that tragic incident.

I have never laughed so hard in my life

I'm so sorry :(

As with most Nintendo related issues, "call Nintendo" is the obvious response...

Sounds a bit strange...but yeah. Call Nintendo.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I have no idea if it works but you could try to move all related files to the internal memory.
