I don't think Nintendo has any interest in most of Capcom Studios, only in the IPs...
This probably means the cost to Nintendo is greater, in the short term, due to employment laws (idon't know how they work on Japan though).
I hope for Nintendo too, but MS / EA are faster at this.

I can only imagine a Japanese company buying them, Microsoft would probably ruin them like they did with Rareware.

Hell, I just ordered Dead Rising 3 on Amazon yesterday. Capcom's franchises are still big names, even if they don't make money like they used to. Hell, whoever owns Street Fighter pretty much owns the entire fighting game community. |
Major fighting game fan. Tekken, Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 & 2, even Street Fighter III to an extent. I hate the general Street Fighter series, though. However, that comment speaks the truth and I hate to admit it. Street Fighter X Tekken was the biggest disappointment ever. I'm done with Street Fighter after that. But, even still, the rest of the community can't get enough.

I guess I just find it strange to see gaming enthusiasts cheering for more and more publisher consolidation. Nobody seems to feel that bigger and more powerful publishers are bringing more diverse or compelling products to market or adopting more consumer-friendly policies. This isn't even the enthusiastic consolidation of a growth industry, but the bargain-hunting opportunism of a saturated market. It's about destroying inefficiencies (read: diversity), not enabling new opportunities. |
Quite. Mergers and acquisitions are often the sign of a stagnant market: companies cannot build new business so they merely consume each other. This is the process we're seeing now
Of course, all the "new entries" are happening down in the mobile development market, but that's still in its "initial bubble" phase, waiting for its own equivalent to the dot-com bust or the Crash of '83 before stabilizing.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The vibe I'm getting from the excited camp is that Capcom is basically creatively bankrupt already, so some buyer might as well salvage what they can and put the rest out of our collective misery.
Ouch.

Apparently lost in the excitement is the fact that Capcom's shareholders have basically just said that they'd like to sell while Capcom's still worth something. They can see the end of the cliff, and they'd like to sell somebody else their train ticket before they go over like THQ. This is not a good thing. If somebody buys Capcom, whether it's Nintendo or EA, that makes Capcom the first major casualty of the 8th gen. Or was that Atlus? They're falling so fast I'm having a tough time keeping track. |
I called Capcoms fall long ago. If you watch Michael Pachter and Bonus Round on Game Trailers this was very predictable.
Because everyone suddenly remembered that Mega Man is a thing!
