There was a hardware boost!

The month of may usually have lower numbers than April(something like 40k less or more).

PS4's numbers for April ~199k and May ~197k.

So thanks to watch dogs the sales didn't drop 40k+ like usually would.

in other words, watch dogs boosted 40k(at least) on ps4.

Hes speaking in real numbers. 199k to 197k is not a boost. No matter if you try spinning it, its still a loss.

I'm not spinning. If watch dogs wasn't released last month PS4 would have fallen to 140-ish area for sure.

In fact, we don´t even know if 199k for April or 197k for May are official. The last number regarding next-gen hardware was the 115k Xone for April.

Neogaf is pulling those numbers out of their asses.

I think the PS4 was meant to dip on this months NPD. But the release of watch dogs did in fact sell systems. It just makes it equal to last months.

Well then the summer won't be good for the ps4 since there are no big games coming out.

why does anyone expect a cross-gen game to move hardware? Its one thing if the PS4/XB1 were the only places you could buy WD for say 1 month, then maybe it could move a little hardware. But why should something that is being releaased day and date and feature complete with last gen consoles move current gen hardware?

I don't get it it.

Here is what happened:
1) Reviews were underwhelming (81 metacritic) and outcries about graphics downgrades were everywhere.
2) It was released on previous generation platforms, so no reason for people to upgrade just for this game.
3) It probably increased sales from what they would have been without the game, but not enough to overcome a slow month.

It waz the hype, the hype! This gen iz all about the hype, not the gamez!!

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

So what's gonna move hardware this year?

Assassins Creed and what? Sunset Overdrive? HD remasters?

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Besides destiny? and thats just cause its bundled with a white PS4, nothing is gonna "move" hardware. And the truth is, the normalized demand is good enough as it is. Come the fall, there will be a normal uptick of sales during the festive season. Thats usually because the hardware is usually bought as a present for someone or the other. And then there will be those that are just ready to upgrade anyways.

The only thing taht stands a chance of moving hardware typically, are games that are not just exclusive to a generation, but preferably exclusive to a platform. Simple fact of it is, till 2015 we are not going to see software driven hardware boosts on either the PS4/XB1. Now only if COD this year was current gen exclusive, damn... that would have done wonders for the hardware.

If AC:U is gen exclusive, it will also move a good deal of hardware.
