Forums - Sony - Vita gets 1800% increase in one month

Amazing what happens when you release a new model, a game and actually advertise the thing.

Well deserved but I expect sales to plummet again very quickly. Hopefully not though.

Always so HARSH >_>

I don't think it was the game. Sony stopped shipping Vitas for months there to clear inventory for the slim model, so numbers were artificially lower. Of course, the lower price with a game and a memory card helps.

Lol that's funny actually.

Ports will save the vita! jk, jk.

Which shows you how much Activision thinks of the Vita lol. That game was supremely aweful and  its still one of the best selling games on Vita.

That should actually make them do more CoDs for Vita. Wii U gets a full console version and sells 0.25M. Vita gets crappy version and still gets 1M with all the bad reviews. A decent CoD could do 2M easily looking at this numbers.

Wait what's harsh about this?

It's pretty well known how much I enjoy my Vita(s), but when you don't send the stock to replenish supply you're going to have poor sales. I'm really impressed by how it performed last month in the NPD, but back to around 15-20k next month seems likely.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I tried to pick up a Vita before I went out to my last job (I work out of state most of the time), and was getting pretty frustrated that I couldn't find one. 2 Walmarts, 2 Best Buys, Target, Toys R Us, Gamestop, no one had ANY. I lucked out at my job destination and found one at a Best Buy in Omaha, NE (they actually had 2 Borderlands bundles). The whole time I was trying to find one, all I could think was "this is why they don't sell good".

But, still a good system. I also picked up Tearaway and LBP.

Only thing I don't like is that there's nothing in the future releases that I'm interested in. I'm just not into Japanese anime looking games (I mean things like Persona or games with names that are still in Japanese), and I only buy games in retail packaging.

Next they should bundle Minecraft.

That would be awesome!

From 3k to 56k. Numbers are still very bad, but this sort of increase is unprecedented. Dat Borderlands effect?

Really? Borderlands moved the needle that much? Seems unlikely.

I've long suspected that NPD bundles their adjustments into the monthly numbers, which can make them look really distorted. They've probably been undertracking Vita for months and lumped all those sales into May.

It's been explained in plenty of previous posts.

Sony had not been shipping any Vita stock to the US clearing out the channels of OLED stock. This was why sales dropped into 4 digits last month. There were literally no Vitas left in stock anywhere TO sell.

Borderlands 2 probably had very little to do with it. You wouldn't expect 66% of a game's sales to come from new hardware sales. Then barely having anyone who already owns the system bothering with it. Just doesn't correlate to me.

Please please please Sony!!
Let this be a lesson!

It's not Sony that needs to learn a lesson, it's third parties. Hopefully they'll see the success of Boarderlands and follow suit.
