Forums - Nintendo Discussion - is Splatoon receiving more attention because its an exclusive Nintnedo shooter?

Well, I think the answer could be yes, it doesn't have to be yes in a negative way as the OP paints it out to be. It's a Nintendo title, so the awareness of it will instantly be shot up a few notches. It's also exclusive, so there's another bump. But the same happens on MicroSony consoles.

We only saw a small sample of the game, so a bit early to dismiss it as an eShop looking title imho. I think it looks fun, and unique for a shooter. You might be right that The Division is deeper and more complex, but there are also many other shooters out there that can satisfy what The Division would satisfy.

Splatoon could create its own audience like Mario Kart did.
Mario Karts audience differs greatly from the other racing games and Splatoon is meant to do the same thing.
Nintendo would probably want it to have its own monopoly for that specific type of audience with the genres they have.
The audience Splatoon has is most likely going to be closer to the Mario Kart audience than CoD.

yet the amount of excitment (mostly on this forum) is surprising for a game like Spatloon.

Splatoon seems to splatter excitement on almost all gamer forums on the internet.

Because it seems to be the most original multiplayer shooter since years.

Accessible to everybody, insanely fun in both local and online multiplayer, with unque gameplay mechanics and lots of depth for the most enthusiastic players to dig into, all delivered with a high amount of polish. I don't want to pre-judge, because the game hasn't shipped yet, but I can see the potential. This is exactly the kind of game that Nintendo should be making.

In the same way that Mario Kart reaches an audience beyond the car enthusiasts who buy Gran Turismo, and Smash Bros eclipses Street Fighter, I see can see Splatoon reaching beyond the audience that typically plays multiplayer shooters. When you consider how popular the genre is, that's a huge potential audience.

The downside is that there's no instant Mario brand recognition, and the install base is tiny, but I truly believe this could be the birth of a new mega franchise.

yeah.... thats Call of Duty

Not denying that CoD has fairly broad appeal, but I'm pretty sure the violence of being a war simulator, the online leveling system which punishes new players, and lets call it a "bro factor," make a lot of people feel left out.

Why the hate? This game looks fun, it's as simple as that. Not to mention it uses gameplay ideas not used before.

I didn't see any hating though. Saying it gets more attention because its a Nintendo exclusive (which I think it does), does not mean that the attention is undeserved (because it isnt undeserved, it looks really fun and interesting).

for me, it is in the same level as plants vs zombies: garden warfare.
i would buy this game if a had a xbox.
but i have a wii U, so, ill probably buy it.

I think Splatoon looks like it could be a great competitive game with all the subtle amounts of depth to it. The reason it's getting as much attention as it is is because it's a new Nintendo IP. Nintendo rarely creates new IPs outside of spinoff games so when a new IP does get created, fans think it's the best thing ever. Like I stated about fans hyping up certain characters like Pit(who was dead) or Rosalina. They have all that praise for new characters or the rare new IP.

It's a Nintendo first party exclusive, and as always, anything Nintendo makes is the best thing ever according to Nintendo fans, regardless of whether they like the genre or not. I'm sure a lot of fans who hate shooters are throwing endless amounts of praise at the game because it's from Nintendo.

Splatoon looks extremely unique compared to shooters out there, AND it's a new Nintendo IP. That's why.

Sony/Microsoft fans love downplaying it though.

Last year, Titanfall won half the Game of the Show awards from E3 because of its mobility options -- innovative new ideas like pressing the jump button to climb on top of objects, and giving the player characters jet packs in a sci-fi shooter.

This year, Nintendo reveals a shooter that's all about mobility: you can leap directly into the action as soon as you spawn, raining inky death from above as you fall. You can fly across gaps, slide up walls and beneath gates. And it isn't so simple as pressing a button: you can only perform these feats on paths you've made for yourself with your gun. This requires actual foresight and strategy. Swimming through ink also replenishes your ammunition, and you can use the ink for stealth. The game's core mechanics are inseparably bound together: you can't move if you don't shoot, and you can't shoot if you don't move. These mechanics enforce planning ahead and being fully aware of your surroundings at all times.

I can't believe I have to explain this. Not only does this game have excellent design (yes, we can determine this from what we know right now!), it is completely unique and doesn't play 95% identically to the modern "standard" like almost every other shooter shown in the past several years. That's why people are talking about it! Not because it's made by Nintendo or because it's part of a dry release schedule. I'd go so far as to say that if this game looked shittier visually and was a bit more boring to play and was third-party, everyone would be inking themselves over it.

Oh yeah, I should mention that single player and multiple game modes are already confirmed, so it's easy to conclude that Splatoon will be meatier on content than Titanfall was.

But OP thinks The Division looks good so I'm probably wasting my time in this thread.
