Forums - Nintendo - How Nintendo Would Appeal to Western Markets

This thread is not meant to troll Nintendo this time. I want to compare the bad things Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony did and how they overcame them!

1.) Nintendo Needs to Get Rid of the Kiddy Image

Nintendo needs Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, and Pokemon to have a hardcore vibe rather than a kiddy vibe. The games mostly have adults playing them so why not make it more suited toward them? Mario is good the way it is however the games need more online competitiveness. Donkey Kong should be in full 3D with 2D side missions. Pikmin should be grittier. Pokemon should focus a lot more on competitiveness rather than appealing to kids.

2.) Nintendo Needs to Appeal to the West

Very few want the gamepad in the west. While it could be popular in Japan it just isn't here in the US. Nintendo should have upgraded the Gamecube controller for the Wii U and packaged a Wii motion plus as well. Nintendo needs to get better amount of systems flowing in Europe like Sony has. Microsoft still struggles with that. Very Few want a female-looking Link here in the west. Zelda deserves and should be a grittier franchise. This is just wrong in my opinion what they did to the games (this is comming from a huge Majoras Mask fan).

3.) Nintendo Needs to Stop fucking around

Nintendo Needs to have a console that can output graphics similar to the competition for an increase in third party support (maybe not possible if they want to be price competitive). Nintendo needs to stop fucking around with securing franchises that arent all that popular. Sure it's nice to have secured lego city and bayonetta but they should secure a franchise that will sell 5 million+ Microsoft is good in this department.

4.) Appropriate pricing.

Wii U is faily cheap right now but it could be cheaper. Had they made a controller rather than a gamepad it could be around 200 dollars right now with perhaps more memory. Gamecube and Wii was priced Nicely.

5.) Online /Other

Wii U should have online that is comparable to PSN. They sghould have ALL old Nintendo titles availale to download from the start. They should have linked accounts with their handheld. PERIOD.

If Nintendo had done all these things this Gen I bet they would have sold at least 15 million units by now...

Microsoft had huge troubles and they overcame them. The future for Microsoft is very bright. PS4 will continue to do well as an appropriately priced Playstation always does! The Biggest trouble Nintendo faces is they cannot appeal to many people outside Japan. This is an easy problem to fix I am surprised they have not done it so far!

I don't think Nintendo will do that because their console will have to cost more. I'm pretty sure Ninty wants to keep their console prices as low as possible.

Your second point is probably the best, "Nintendo needs to appeal to the West by appealing to the West."

I agree completely.

People preaching about what gamers want in the west is a bit like people preaching about God. God's opinions always seem to match exactly the opinions of the preacher.

I agree with all of these except 1. The kiddy image needs to be fixed. But you don't tamper with the games themselves. That's how you kill things. People love a series, even if its demographics is primary for a younger group. Take Adventure TIme. I'm 28, I find that type of action and story telling fun to watch. That's what people like. And I have no problem playing things like that. You fix the kiddy image by having more games for Teen and M rating available on the system. That's why it started in the first place. Promote them, along with the regular Nintendo stuff. You don't add guns to games. Or you create Shadow The Hedgehog failures.

The Treehouse stream was great. Because Nintendo didn't shy away from Bayonetta 2 sexyness. During all the other E rated games around it. They need to do more of that. Do that risk and pay R* to port GTA V. Or make sure to get GTA VI locked down in the future. Regardless of your personal definition of "Mature" GTA sells. And Nintendo needs the like.

Christ! Why do people keep thinking the gamepad and the kinect are the same thing. They are not.

It's still a thing that people don't want. I have a Wii U and think the pad is worthless. I almost never use it for anything but off TV function. But at least Nintendo allows all other control types to function everywhere. The Kinect is less serving in the sense its just a camera and a microphone. But has the same issue. Worthless, and has a added issue of having variable problems during use. Like a loud room interfering with the mic etc.

Leave Zelda alone. I pretty much agree with everything else.
