Forums - Nintendo - How Nintendo Would Appeal to Western Markets

I would be OK with a darker Zelda game as long as it has a very unique atmosphere just like Majora's Mask! I also agree with more than half of what you said! I am shocked in a good way!

Around the Network

1. NIntendo has no kiddy image among real gamers it has this among mainstreamers that need to compensate something in their life. People that (no offense) but imho need to constantly be reminded that they are males otherwhise they would forget because of their insecurity or something.

2. Nintendo does not need to focus on western gamers at all.  Some of the dumbest game design decisions and business practices are made in the west. Also the main audience for western style games is mainstreamers not gamers. If you are easily impressed by visuals you probably prefer western games over japanese games. Nintendo needs to find the balance between japanese and western audience.  Games like minecraft or Borderlands or DarkSouls come to mind.

3. noone needs better hardware as long as the games are sub par. When we reach the limit with innovation and game design and really NEED new hardware because we simply cannot make better games then okay but as long as 95% of the games are garbage or corridor games we dont need better hardware. (like WiiU was completely not needed for a game like NSMBU etc.) We need better devs better publishers less control by shareholders that just want short term profit and smaller budgets (or more risky publishers/devs). People need to learn how to economize properly instead of wasting millions and then playing it save because well to much money is at stake.

Thank god indies bring fresh wind into gaming (no mans sky is one of the most promising games of this and last years e3!)

4. WiiU has a nice price. What is overpriced tho is the digital content nintendo provides.  8bucks for a snes game? 5 at max!  5 for a NES game? 3 at max!
GC games will probably cost 15+ when you think about how N64 games cost 10 bucks   rofl.    9.99 for a GC game is a good price  not 15+

 5. Online gaming is fine on WiiU the account system and the Eshop need some fixing! Here I completely agree. Instead of releasing 5 games a month or so and highlighting them they should release as many games as possible and instead discount 5 games and highlight those 5 discounted games.

For me focusing on the western customers is like asking all the good movie directors on the planet to just make movies for the G.I Joe or Captain America fanbase (these are horrible mainstream movie)

A toastboy thread I somewhat agree with..
i must be dreaming.

They need new IP. I don't care about anything related to Mario. Xeno X, Zelda, and Bayonetta 2 are good starts, but what happens after that? More Mario?

In my opinion, they need 3 things:

1) Maintaining quality and quantity of their main IPs, specially in launch window.

2) Hardware capable of supporting 3rd party games with ease and relative parity with other 2 - this one is no-brainer really, since 3rd party games are a must in this day and age for any platform.

3) Kid oriented games - Nintendo already promised more focus on this, and considering what they've shown in E3, I'm glad to see them deliver. I think that lot of people underestimate how important is this to gamers who have children when comparing two platforms with similar capabilities.

Of course, few additional IPs that are oriented at western gamers would be also helpful, specially if they get there hands on some western RPG developer.
